During construction, a lateral pipe was discovered to bisect horizontally through the new pier footing. After the geologist approved the footing depth and bearing capacity, the contractor sleeved the existing horizontal pipe and provided the necessary vertical bars. Incidentally the diameter of the caisson improved from 24" to 30" in diameter for the entire depth. If there are any other questions or concerns, please call me at (949) 226-7130. Field Memorandum X201 q •,zo211 -724 V 5ome5 P? Client: Ms. Linda Horioka c/o Deck & Railing Solutions Date: August 12, 2019 Project Address: 724 St James Place, City of Newport Beach Project: 19035-01 Subject: Caisson Observation for Proposed Rear Deck Addition To Existing Structure Peter Anderson of ANDERSON GEOLOGY CONSULTING, LLC. (AG) was onsite at the request of the General Contractor (Mr. David Richey, Deck & Railing Solutions) to observe and document the caisson for the proposed rear deck addition at the subject site. One (1) caisson (C-1) was drilled to a total depth of 16 -feet below existing grades in order to provide embedment into competent bedrock and undisturbed terrace deposits per the approved project plans. No groundwater or caving conditions were encountered. Conclusions: Caisson excavation for the proposed improvements summarized above have been drilled to the depths provided for the minimum embedment into competent material in accordance with the approved plans. The caissons excavations are considered acceptable from an engineering geologic viewpoint for placement of steel and concrete. All loose material and/or water should be removed from the caissons prior to placement of steel and concrete. This memorandum is not intended to verify cage length or steel reinforcement and line and grade elevations for caissons is the responsibility of others and not verified by AG representatives. As a condition for use of this field memorandum, the property owners and builder shall accept the risk of minor structural and cosmetic cracking between improvements supported by new foundation and those supported by the existing foundation.
