SUBJECT: BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A CHECK FROM THE FRIENDS
OF THE NEWPORT BEACH LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO
MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS BUDGET ACCOUNTS FOR
FY 2006107.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a Budget Amendment to increase revenue estimates by $17,000 in Account
No. 4091 -5892 (Friends of the Library Donations), and increase expenditure estimates
by $17,000 in Division 4091, Friends.
DISCUSSION:
A gift from the Friends of the Newport Beach Public Library in the amount of $17,000
was approved by the Library Board of Trustees on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. A
facsimile of the original check will be presented to City Council on March 27.
The Friends see their mission as enhancing the excellent services the City already
supports. The Friends Executive Board reviewed the 'wish list" developed by staff and
selected the library materials listed below.
The Friends provide major support for Library materials of all kinds, enhancing
specialized collections. $10,000 of this donation will be used to purchase two 2 -year
subscriptions to databases, and $7,000 will be used to purchase new non - fiction
materials and Music on CD. This donation is the third gift from the Friends for FY 06107.
Without these generous gifts our collection of materials would not be the genuinely
outstanding collection it is.
The entire donation will be used to improve Library Services in the M &O expenditure
accounts as indicated below.

TERC (Testing & Education Reference Center) $ 6,000
Kids InfoBits (magazines & reference materials for K -5) $ 4,000
Collection Support:
New Non - fiction
Music on Compact Disc
