HomeMy WebLinkAbout9/12/2013 - City Arts Commission - 04 Staff Report Cultural Arts ActivitiesMEMO To: City of Newport Beach Arts Commission CC: Cynthia Cowell, Library Services Director From: Tim Hetherton, Library Services Manager Date: 9/9/2013 Re: Cultural Arts Activities for August 2013 Cultural Arts Grants The Cultural Arts Division prepared the application materials for arts organizations interested in offering cultural arts programs for Newport Beach residents and visitors. 2013-14 Newport Beach Cultural Arts Grants applications may be submitted to the Cultural Arts Office by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 27. Grant applications are available online on the City's website, www.newportbeachca.gov under Departments and Services>Cultural Arts>Cultural Arts Grants. Applications can be mailed or delivered to: Cultural Arts Services, Newport Beach Public Library, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach, CA 92660. Emailed applications should be sent to: thetherton@newportbeachca.gov. Cultural Arts Grants, as determined by the City Arts Commission, will be awarded to qualified arts organizations with strong projects that enhance arts education and community programs. Successful applicants must propose projects/programs for funding that directly benefit children, youth, adults and seniors in Newport Beach, as well as schools within the City's geographic boundaries. Applicants must also be able to document need, quantifiable success, a realistic budget and an implementation plan. Last year’s grantees were reminded to submit their completion reports by Friday, September 27, in order to be eligible for consideration for this year’s grant opportunities. Concert in the Park The final Concert in the Park was held on August 11 in the Civic Center Green. Attendance was estimated at 1600 concertgoers. The band “Upstream” provided a enjoyable variety of Caribbean sounds. Request For Proposal No. 14-6: Public Arts Coordination And Site Management Services For Inaugural Sculpture Exhibition At Civic Center Park Anthony Nguyen from the Finance Department completed the final version of Request For Proposal No. 14-6. The RFP has been uploaded to the City website and can be accessed at the following URL: https://www5.newportbeachca.gov/osupplier/bid_current.asp Anthony has publicized the RFP in through local media outlets. Cultural Arts Division website The “Opportunities For Artists” page has been updated and the new Application for Review and Consideration of Art form is live and in use.
