The parking spaces would be changed to golf cart spaces (probably 4 and maybe 5 spaces), which are narrower, so the
roadway should not be narrowed more that 12". THe existing 2 golf cart spaces on the north side of the street would be
replaced with a car space, so we will trade 2 car spaces for 4-5 golf cart spaces.
Only one of the bike racks would be relocated. those 10 bikes would be relocated to the red curb areas near the
crosswalks on Marine. Hopefully this will take some of the bikes off the sidewalk that tend to get locked up to trees and
other items up Marine. Which areas and the final configuration is yet to be decided, but staff is working with the
merchant's association to come up with a design.
Councilman Herdman owns property within 500' and he his not allowed by the Brown Act to participate in this decision,
like I am sure that he would like to.

Subject: village inn outdoor dining question
Council Persons, especially Jeff Herdman —
I have looked at the staff report regarding approval for the Village Inn outdoor dining. I approve of
allowing them to have outdoor dining but have a couple of questions:
The sidewalk on Park Avenue shall be widened to allow outdoor dining to occupy up to three (3) feet of
the public right of way, while maintaining a six (6) foot wide sidewalk. The final design shall be approved
by the Public Works. Director, and the applicant shall perform all required improvements and be
responsible for the cost of all necessary improvements in the public right-of-way.
What does this do to the parking spaces currently in front of the VI? Park Ave is already narrow
especially when the delivery trucks park in the middle of the street. The sidewalk is narrow there
already, so to widen it means to go into the street. Right?.
Direct staff to relocate a portion of the existing bike racks adjacent to the Village Inn to new bike
corrals in the 200 and 300 blocks of Marine Avenue.
Where are these corrals going to be located and how will they be configured so as not to impede
pedestrian foot traffic? I can't visualize where these will be. With the current bike racks at the VI they
are located off the sidewalk walkway.
