TWEREAS, Public Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our residents
everyday lives and serve as the foundation to society; and
'�WEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry and elected officials is vital to the
efficient operation of Pu6lic Works systems and programs such as streets and highways, water, sewers,
harbors and waterways, transportation systems, public 6uild ngs, and solid waste collection; and
"kWEREAS the health, safety, value and comfort of this City depends on these Public Works facilities
and services; and
IP E12EAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design,
construction, and operation are vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of Pu6lic Works and
YunicipalOperations managers and staff; and
✓fEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff Public Works and
�VunicipalOperations Departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding
of the importance of the work they perform, and
TWER,EAS, the year 2017 marks the 571fi annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the
American Pu6lic WorksAssoczation, with this year's theme being "Public Works Connects vs. "
9VOW, WEREFOU, I, Kevin Wuldoon, 9dayor of the City of Newport Peach, do hereby proclaim the
weekof 9ilay 21-27, 2017 as
"NAgrONAL PVBLIC WORX5 WEEK"
in the City of Newport Beach and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves
with the issues involvedin providing andmaintaining ourpu6lic works andto recognize the contributions
which Public Works and 9VlunicipalOperations officials make every day to our health, safety, comfort,
and quality of life.
