GOVERNANCE
• The Newport Beach Sister City Association (NBSCA) is a 501(C)(3)
non- profit organization founded in 1984 by local residents. NBSCA
operates under the umbrella of the Cultural Arts Division of the City
of Newport Beach.
• NBSCA is guided by a Board of Directors and advised by a City liaison
as well as a liaison from the Newport Mesa Unified School District
and student representatives from local high schools.
• NBSCA is governed by a set of City policies as well as our written by-
laws, policies and procedures. NBSCA are members of Sister City
International headquartered in Washington D.C. who provide
invaluable support and information to our organization.

PROGRAMS
In 2017, NBSCA supported the annual
Ensenada Race by sending representatives to
Ensenada on the day of the race. Prior to the
race they attended the Mayor's reception
held in Newport. There they met with the
new Mayor of Ensenada, Marco Novelo.
While in Ensenada they also met with
Ensenada City officials and presented gifts to
the children of Ensenada for their Day of the
Child celebration.

PROGRAMS
Cultural exchanges
• Local artist Gianne de Genevraye has
agreed to travel to each of our sister cities
to paint the gardens in each city. Gianne
has been selected by Antibes to be their
"Artist in Residence" at the Ville Fontaine
where she will paint in the gardens.
• Gianne has applied and received an
invitation from the Newport Beach Arts
Commission to exhibit her paintings of
our Sister Cities at the Newport Beach
Central Library in 2018. NBSCA will be
holding a reception in conjunction with
the exhibition.
PROGRAMS
NBSCA has been chosen to host the quarterly
meeting of the Southern California chapter
of Sister City International in August 2017.
The meeting will be held in the Civic Center
Community Room. This will be a great
opportunity to promote our wonderful city.

PROGRAMS
NBSCA also entertains groups of dignitaries
from our Sister Cities and travels to their
countries with citizens and dignitaries from
Newport Beach, usually during our five year
anniversaries.

CHALLENGES
• MEMBERSHIP
We have lots of ideas for additional activities and fundraising but it
takes bodies to make it happen. To that end, we try to get as much
press as possible for our events. Our fundraisers are also social
events planned around an international theme and we promote our
organization at these events.
CHALLENGES
• FUNDING
NBSCA's annual budget is about $15,000.
NBSCA's operational funds come from grants given by the City of Newport
Beach, membership dues, donations, fundraisers and grants from local
companies and businesses.
NBSCA holds several fundraisers, collects membership dues, and receives a
small annual grant from Pacific Life. Local businesses such as the Marriott
Hotel and Hornblower Yachts have helped in the past with costs for
dignitary visits. Others have provided auction items for our fundraisers.

• EXPENSES
-Membership in Sister City International and U.S. Mexico Sister City;
-Liability and D &O Insurance;
-Administrative expenses (i.e., maintaining a website, Facebook page, printing);
-Costs for Student exchanges and conference attendance;
-Costs for entertaining dignitaries from our Sister Cities and Sister City
conferences, etc.
-New and improved informational brochure is required.
Strong sister city relationships serve as an engine for
diplomacy and peace building, as well as economic
development and investment. Deep and enduring
relationships built due to Sister City partnerships open
doors for business relationships and increased tourism.
