visitors' everyday lives and serve as the foundation of a society; and
U` IM,EAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry and elected officials is vital to the
efficient operation of 1Public Works systems and programs such as streets and highways, harbors and
waterways, water and sewer systems, public buildings, and solid waste collection; and
TWEP,EAS, the health, safety and comfort of this city, State and Country depend on these critical
facilities and services; and
W11EUAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design,
construction, operation and maintenance, are vitally dependent upon the efforts and skills of Public
Works and utilities Operations managers andstaff; and
`PWEAS, the efficiency of the qual ed and dedicated personnel who staff the Pu 61 Works and
utilities Operations Departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of
the importance of the work they perform; and
,�WEUAS, theAmerican Public WorksAssociation has celekatedYationalPu6lic Works Weeksince
1906.
NOW,, IMUTOP, I, 911arshall "Duffy" Duffield, Mayor of the City of Newport Beach, do hereby
proclaim the weekof 911ay 20 thru 26, 2018 as

in the City of Yewport Beach and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves
with the issues involved in providing and maintaining our Public Works systems and to recognize the
contributions which Public Works and utilities Operations officials make every day to our health, safety,
comfort, and quality of life.
