'PWEREAS, (Pu6fic Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our residents
everyday lives and serve as the foundation to society; and
`KWEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry and elected officials is vital to the
efficient operation of Tubfic Works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways,
harbors and waterways, public buildings, parks and solid waste collection; and
IPWEREAS, the health, safety and comfort of this City depends on these facilities and services; and
TVJIEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, and
construction, are vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of Public Works and Municipal
Operations officials andstaff; and
U,'JfER AS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff 1Pu6ric Works and
Municipal Operations (Departments is materially influenced 6y the people's attitude and understanding
of the importance of the work they perform; and
'fWERMS, the year 2016 marks the Stith annual National (Pu6fic Works 'Week sponsored 6y the
American Tu6fic Works Association; with this year's theme being "Bu6fic Works Always There. "
NOW,, WERETFORE, I, Diane Brooks Di, -Con, Mayor of the City of Newport Beach, do hereby
proclaim the weekof May 15-21, 2016 as

in the City of Newport Beach and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint
themselves with the issues involved in providing and maintaining our pu6fic works and to recognize the
contributions which Bu6tic Works and Municipal Operations officials make every day to our health,
safety, comfort, and quality of fife.
