HomeMy WebLinkAbout00 - Closed Session - Additional InfoFrom: Cc: Subject: Date: Hi Folks— Kiff. Dave Brown, Leilani; Haro, Aaron About Two Agenda Items Tomorrow (Tues, June 12, 2018) Monday, June 11, 2018 7:28:34 PM June 12, 2018 Closed Session & Item No. 28 I have been made aware through e-mails and comments that there may be some confusion about two important items on the City Council's agenda for tomorrow—Tuesday, June 12th, 2018. First, the Lido House Hotel (LHH) Closed Session discussion. Several months ago, our staff (including me) had a conversation with Mr. Robert Olson of RD Olson (the LHH operator). I had heard about his rumored interest in purchasing the hotel site, and wanted to respectfully follow-up with Bob. This conversation occurred in good faith on both sides. No commitments were made by Bob or by me and this matter is on the Closed Session agenda at our City staffs request. Second, on the proposed Charter amendment, the Council on May 22, 2018 in public session approved what we call an "A-1" item (where the Council sees if 3 or more Council Members would like to debate something formally at an upcoming date) to discuss a possible City Charter amendment that would require voter approval of certain debt, like lease -revenue bonds and Certificates of Participation (COPS). Fast forward to Friday, June 8. While I wasn't confused about when exactly this would land on the agenda, not everyone can read my mind. I was planning on bringing it forward on June 26th. But then I boldly went out of town to go backpacking in the Sierras with zero cell phone coverage for miles. How wonderful was that? A heck of a lot. Anyway, back in civilization, our staff here was confused about the timing. Fully appropriately given that I was unavailable, my staff added it to the June 12 agenda just in case. Today, arriving back in town with several mosquitos in tow (you're welcome, Newport!), the mosquitos and I are going to respectfully recommend that the Council continue this item to the June 26th meeting, so that the Council and community gets more adequate lead time for this important issue. Please know that I do intend to bring the item back on June 26th formatted so that the Council can place something on the ballot for November 2018 should a majority choose to do so. Sincerely, Dave Kiff City Manager
