Item 14. First Amended and Restated Employment Agreement with
Police Chief Lewis
I heard and agree with Laura Curran's comments on this item at this morning's (July 23) Special
Meeting of the City Council: I am unable to find any explanation in the staff report of what
prompted the proposed changes to compensation and benefits, and what justifies the amounts
proposed.
Also, since the Police Chief works for the City Manager rather than for the City Council, and
since the staff report says the amounts proposed are within the Council's approved budget, I
think it would have been helpful to indicate why the matter is on the Council agenda. That is, is it
here as a courtesy? Or to fulfill a requirement of law (and if so, which law, laws or policy)?
