I would like to ask the City Council to reconsider allowing the Downtowner golf cart transportation system to
run again along the Balboa Penninsula.
While the free shuttle service seems to be a success, waits are long, and the trolley tends to fill up
quickly. While this is great for day trippers who want to save on a long walk, the Downtowner offered better
benefits to residents and long term visitor to the area.
The downtowner operated more like a Uber, in that it would pick up riders at any location and drop off at any
location within their service area. This is great for residents who do not want to lose street parking spots on the
weekend to make a trip to the grocery store or to go out to dinner at a local restaurant.
The downtowner supports local business and residents, encouraging residents to easily visit local establishments
instead of fearing that driving will cause parking issues upon their return.
I believe that both the Downtowner and the free trolley have a place on the Penninula and ask that you
reconsider allowing the Downtowner to operate on the Penninula.
