A Heritage Legacy Project for California Phase III North Beach Restoration Capital Campaign Crystal Cove Conservancy's capstone restoration project is a dedicated campaign focused on completing the restoration and conservation of Crystal Cove's National Register Historic District and expanding public access to Crystal Cove's North Beach. The cost of the Phase III North Beach Restoration Capital Campaign is $35 million. Through this campaign, Crystal Cove Conservancy will: • Restore full, public access to the beach and state park, including North Beach • Preserve Crystal Cove Historic District, a nationally registered historic place, for the education and enjoyment of visitors and future environmental stewards. • Renovate and reopen to the public the remaining 17 historic lk- cottages, update infrastructure, and improve accessibility. Develop coastal engineering programs and provide an overnight lodging facility for student education. Protect the natural environment, which fosters our mission and supports our vision of a fully restored and sustainable Crystal Cove. Enhance the quality, availability, and sustainability of educational programs and outreach to all park visitors. Mission Crystal Cove Conservancy is the nonprofit public benefit partner to Crystal Cove State Park, employing a social enterprise model to fund important preservation, conservation, and education initiatives that will cultivate our planet's next generation of environmental stewards, ensuring that Crystal Cove lives on for generations to come. Rev. 8/1/18 On March 8, 2017 Coastal Commission granted approval for our Coastal Development Permit: 17 remaining Cottages on the North Beach of the Historic District approved for restoration 22 historic and affordable overnight rentals will be available 24,000 additional annual rental opportunities, doubling the occupancy at Crystal Cove Create a financially sustainable Crystal Cove State Park - dollars no longer needed from the State's General Fund Coastal Commission's approval granted $1 million for an education endowment: Build a Coastal Engineering Program focused on sea level rise, coastal erosion, and water quality concepts and lessons Provide students with a 2 -night stay in Cottage #20 and conduct experiments in Crystal Cove's outdoor classroom Partner with University of California Irvine's Samueli School of Engineering to provide curriculum and lesson plans Timeline: Construction will take 5 years from start due to the site complexity and sensitivity Construction will be managed and administered by Crystal Cove Conservancy and Crystal Cove Management Company Construction will take place in two phases: Infrastructure then cottage restoration of the 17 unique structures. North Beach Restoration Project Budget Infrastructure $17,750,000 Includes: Complete site work preparation utilities and sewage lift station, bluff stabilization, and 650 foot boardwalk and public access service path. Historic Restoration $16,000,000 Includes: Seventeen (17) individual and unique structures (22 rental units), cottage foundations, re -wiring and building to code, period appropriate furnishings, and Secretary of Interior restoration practices.
