The Board of Trustees,of the city of Newport Beach, met in adjomrned session 2.30 P.M. date and place above shown. President Hermes called the meeting to order;and the roll was called showing there were present,trustees: Albert Hermes ,S.L.Collins,W.K.Parkinson and C.H.Way. Absent:trustee:R.J.Stauss. Various communicaticks read and referred to proper order of business. Unfinished Business:- Permits for the crossing of the Pao Elec and also the So Pao rights of way with the Citys Water pipe line at 43rd street,was filed. Mr M.Johnson appeared before the Board and made a proposition to organize a band,he to undertake the instruction of said band for a consideration of $60.00 per month;the arrangement to run from month to month until otherwise arranged. Moved by trustee Parkinson,seconded by trustee Way and carried that M.Johnson be employed as musical instructor or band master at a salary of $60.00 per month;the arrangement to be by the month as proposed by Mr Johnson. Moved by trustee Way,seconded by trustee Collins that ' ?later Supt McMillan be instructed to sell the old tank at the pumping station,for which there is no immediate use, to best advantage. Carried. New Business:- This being the second Monday in December, in pursuance of sec;26 of ordinance 15,the Tax - Collector delivered to the Board of Trustees ,his complete delinquent list together with the assesment roll. And the Board of Trustees proceeded to carefully compare the said delinquent list with the assesment roll,and foot up the total at amount of taxes remaining unpaid and credited the Tax- Collector therewith and had a complete settlement with the Tax- Collector,and recharged him with the delinquent and unpaid taxes,together with loo additional and fifty cents on each lot,piece or tractof land separately assesed. This action being taken on motion of trustee Way,secomded by trustee Collins and carried. John Scwarz made application for the renewal of the hotel liquor license held by him. Moved by trustee Parkinson,seconded by trustee Collins and carried that the application be granted and the hotel license held by John Schwarz be extended one year. Request of R.Brady that restaurant license held by him be transferred to John Stuckenbruk was granted and transfer ordered on motion 6f trustee Way seconded by trustee Parkinson and carried. The request of certain property owners to,improve Alvarado Street was granted and Street Supt instructed to have needed grade stakes set,on motion of trustee ?Pay seconded by trustee Collins and carried. The proposition of F.O.Engstrom Co to build a bulkhead along bayfront at East Newport opposite Bay Island was considered. Moved by trustee Parkinson that the matter be tabled.No second. Moved by trustee Collins,seconded by trustee Way and carried;that the City Engineer with the City Atterney inspect records and report as to whether or the street at that point goes to water line;also to report on number od yards of fill would be required to bring street to grade to water line. Mr Engstrom requested withdrawal of his proposition,which was denied on account of its already having been referred for further action. Moved by trustee Parkinson that the Marshal be instructed to purchase a new stove for the City -Hall; and that the Clerk be instructed to arrange for the fitting out of the City Hal,l building with Venetian B11nds.Carried. tL City attorney Bishop stated that byk vote the Board could order street paving over all protest. Moved by trustee Collins seconded by trustee Way that adjournment be taken to 2.30.P.M.Monday.Dec 22nd.Carried. �.
