Newport Beach,City Hall,Febry 14th,1916.
The Board of Trustees of the city of Newport Beach met in adjourned
session 7.30 P.M.Monday,February 14th,1916.
President W.K.Parkinson called the meeting to order and the roll was
called showing there were present trustees W ?K.Parkinson;S.R.Jumper;
H.A.Robinson and C.H.Way.Absent trustee G.P.Wilson.Who however
arrived later and took part in the.subsequent business of themeeting.
The minutes of-the meeting.of.Feby 7th,1916.were read and approved.
Various communications were read and referred to proper order of
busimess.
Unfinished business:City Attorney.Clyde Bishop reported that he had
forwarded to the Attorney General the abstract of the proceedings
leading up to the bond issue in the matter of the.Gas Distributing
System bonds:also that he had'written the State Railroad Commission
as to the citys intention regarding the establishing by the City of
a gas distributing system which was a reply to inquiry of said
Commission.
New Busines.s.:- Letter from W.P.Jeffries soliciting printing of bonds
was filed.
Notice from the State R.R.Commission in the matter of a hearing to
be given the Southern Counties Gas Company concerning the-extension
of their.mains in Orange.County.;time for such hearing being set for
ten oclock A.M.Febry 23rd,1916,was filed.The attention of city
attorney Bishop and city engineer F.unk,who are to attend this meetii
being called to the time set.
Letter from County Clerk Williams notifying the city clerk that it
was no longer the duty of the County Clerk to furnish new index for
the coming pity election was filed.
Letter from B.F.Porter,administrator of'the estate T.F.Porter;
requesting cancellation.and.refund on license #152 issued to T.F.
Porter and under which he. conducted a.plumbing business,was filed
on advice of city attorney Bishop that under the existing ordinance
refunds on unexpired licenses could not legally be made.
Letter from the Los tingelestiCo soli.citing.business to be placed in
their new directory;also the sale of one volumn to the city at $10.1
was filed.
Application of F.L.Ri.nehart for.a position in the gas department of
the city when.same is established was filed.
Ordinance # - -- being an ordinance of the city of Newport Beach
changing and establishing the grades of Surf Avenue and other
Avenues from the easterly line of Ninth Street to the easterly line
of- Alvarado Street,and the grades of Montero Avenue and other Avenue
was read for the first time and was passed to second reading on
motion of trustee S.R.Jumper,seconded by trustee C.H.Way and carrie
Ordinance # - -- being an ordinance of the city of Newport Beach
providing for the holding of a municipal election April 10th,1916,
was read for the first time and was passed to.second reading on
motion of.trustee H.A.Robinson,seconded by trustee G.P.Wilson and
carried.
Moved by trustee S.R.Jumper that ywo election precincts be establi
for the coming city election.No second.
Moved by trustee S.R.Jumper seconded by.trustee G.P.Wilson that the
bids on fire trucks and apparatus be considered.Carried.
Moved by trustee H.A.Robinson seconded. by trustee G.P.Wilson and
carried that the bid of the American- LaFrance- Fire - Engine- Company
covering two seconded machines,now at ]Long Beach and as inspected
by the Fire Chief and Fire Committee,be accepted and the machines
purchased.Roll call ordered and resulted as follows.Ayes,S.R.Jumper
H.A.Robinson,G.P.Wilson. Noes ,W.K.Parkinson,C.H.Way.Motion declared
carried.

Attorney Davis appeared for the Crown Stage Company and requested
that the Board of Trustees in considering applications for automobil
stage licenses require the filing of a certified copy of papers of
'incorporation or co- par•tner•ship..Discussion followed which resulted
in motion by trustee H.A.Robinson,seconded by trustee S.R.$umper and
carried,That inasmuch as it appears that certain automobile bus
licenses issued by this city were obtained by fraud,and used by the
Crown Stage Company and by the Starr Stage Company who were not ent.i
to use same,therefore it is hereby ordered that all such licenses
illegally obtained and used be cancelled.
Moved by trustee G.P.Wilson,seconded by trustee S.R.Jumper and
carried that adjournment be taken to 7.30 P.M.Monday,February 21st,
1916..Adjourned.
