Jany 1.5th, 1917: The Board of Trustees of the city of Newport Peach met in adjourned session 7:30 P.M. 11onday January 15th, 1917. President Jumper called the meeting to order and the roll was called showing there were present trustees, S.R.Jumper, Glenn Helms, G.P. Wilson, J.C.McCain, Absent, Trustee., H.A.Robinson. Minutes of the meeting of January 8th, 1917, were read and approved. Communications; were read and referred to proper order of business. UNFINISHED BUSINESS; Final Passage Resolution #64 Moved by trustee, J.C.McCain, second Fyustee, Glenn Helms and carried that Resolution '64 be placed on final passage and adoption, the roll was called and Resolution #6* was passed and adopted by the vote of the following named memb of the board of trustees; Ayes, Trustees; S.R.Jumner, G Helms, G.P.'.'.'ilson, J.C.McCain, Noes; None, Absent Trustee H.A.Robinson, and was signed =- d approved by the President of the Board of Trust NEW BUS-NESS; Amending Tax Ordinance 115 Trustee Glenn Helms introduced an ordinance to amend Sections 16- 21- 22- 25- 26- 28 -29 -30 of ordinance #15 of the city of Newport Beach; the said Ordinance was ordered filed, was read and numbered Ordinance 4128 and was referred to the city attorney to be put in proper shape for final passage by the Board of Trustees. Letter from F.H.Brooks was read asking for information regarding a board walk or cement bulkhead at East Newport, the same was refe- rred to the city clerk for reply. Card from the South Coast lm rovement Association was read extend- ing invitation to the Board of Trustees o attend their banquet it the Huntingto Beach Inn,1/17/1917 was ordered filed. Letter from the Pacific Light & Tower Corp!n, was read notifying the Board of Trustees that they had placed a serviceman here, the same was filed.. Letter from Lew H. ' °allace,was read calling.attention to the matter of the drafting of a bill to be presented to the Legislature asking that they define t1te channel of the Santa. Ana River, Moved by trustee G.P.Wilson seconded by trustee Glenn Helms and carried that the same be - referred to city attorney Bishop to draw up and present the Bill. Letter from I:Tr Young, asking that the electric light posts be extended down to "I" street was read, Moved by trustee J.C.McCain seconded by trustee, Glenn Helms and Carried that the same be filed! Letter from•A.L.Heard, was read asking permission to cross the side -walk with his automobile at Lot 7 Block 7 Balboa Tract, the request was granted. Report from J.A.Porter Tax Collector, on the Delinquent List, was accepted and ordered filed.. Refund of Tax; Moved by trustee J.C.McCain seconded by trustee G.P.l';ilson and carried that a demand be allowed and warrant drawn to cover in favor of Clyde Bishop in the sum of $9.36 the same being the amount paid by him on the Charles Schwall property and which property was due Soldiers Exemption in the above amount. Balboa Island Hap; Moved by trustee G.P.`Wilson seconded by trustee J.C.McCain and carried that the city Engineer be instructed to make a traceing of Balboa Island from the Assessors maps of Orange County, the same to be used fcr assessment purposes. Side -walk 23d, to 36th, "treet; The matter of the assessment district for the building of'a side -walk on piles between 23d, and 36th, sts was referred to a committee consisting of Glenn Helms & H.A.Robinson. Harbor Commission; The Clerk was instructed to notify the members of the Harbor Commission of the meeting of the Board Jany, 22nd, 1917, *I.2-I.;ORIAL OF FES� k'CT "' Whereas, the Supreme Architect of the Universe has, in his infinite wisdom and the consummation of Nature's great design, seen fit to call H.T.Rutherford from the activities of life to the reward'of his labors well performed; and Whereas, H.T.Rutherford, by his integrity of manhood and rectitude of endeavor, has endeared himself to "all who had the good fortune to come within the influence of his friendship;•and Whereas, as a city and as a people, Newport Beach has by his death sustained a heavy loss and 'duly conscious that from it's midst there has withdrawn one respected as a citizen and cherished as a friend; and ".rherea6, his useful life is closed, another known and loved. by us has answered the summons from beyond the great Divide and our friend has fallen into Death's never - ending sleep, though his personal presence is forever gone, yet in the hearts and memory of those whose lives were touched by the magnitude of his manhood, his example of self- obtained success, the name of H.T.Rutherford will live as an incentive to honest effort: Therefore, the Board of Trustees of the city of Newport Beach, in regular convention assembled; do resolve: That, as.a mark of respect to the memory of H.T.Rutherford, the places of business and pleasure oT the city tie duly closed during the hours from one to three P.M. of Tuesday, the 16th, day of January, 1917, That this Resolution be spread in full upon the minutes of this meeting, and that the original be transmitted to the be- re ^ved family,.and that when this meeting adjourns that it adjourn out of respect and in consideration of the memory of our res -ected fellow- citizen, the late H.T.Rutherford. The roll was called and this Resolution was adopted by the vmtes of the following named members of the Board of Trustees of the city of Newport Beach: Ayes; Trustees, S.R.Jumper, Glenn Helms, G.P.WJilson, H.A.Robinson, J.C.11cCain.
