The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regu- lar monthly session at the place and on the date above mentioned. The roll was called and the following Trustees were found to be pres ent: Trustees E.A. Robinson, J. J. Schnitker ,Geo.P.;7ilson,J.C.;,IcCairi and J.P.Greeley,being the entire membership of tle Board. The reading of the Juinutes was dispensed with and the Board procee with the order of business. REPORTS OF HEADS Or' DEPARTLIENTS. The monthly reports of the Heads of Departments were read and o motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded• by Trustee J.C.Iucoain and dal carried,the same were ordered filed. REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON GAS ENGINE AND 1,7ATER TANK BIDS. The Committee appointed on gas engine and water tank bids recommended the acceptance-of the following bids: On gas engine that of The Smith -Booth -Usher Co.,W1640.and Starter $115.; on water tank, that of The Pacific Tank end Pipe Co „$1540. GAS ENGINE AND WATER TANK BIDS ACCEPTED. It was moved by Trustee J.P.GreeleT,seconded by Trustee Geo.P. Wilson and duly carried that all bids 6n.-the gas engine be rejected except the bid of the Smith - Booth -Usher Co. and that their bid be accepted,and the Tate-r- Superintendent be instructed to purchase said engine and starter. It was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and duly carried that all bids on the water tank be reject+ except the bid of the Pacific Pipe and Tank Co.,that their bid be accepted but action withheld until lot can be secured on which to erect said tank. < OPENING OF -BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BOARD -Bide, for the construction of a Board opened and were as follows: N7.M.Ledbetter y, Co. 4.95 per Fred Hoffman, 5.35 per Geo.77.Tuttle Co., 5.632 ” .7ilmot J.Long, X5.81 ';.`ALK ON SURF AVE. On calling the roll, Trustees responded as follows: Ayes,Trustees H.A.Robinson,J.J.Schni Geo.P.17ilson,J.C.McCain and J.P.Greeley. Noes,None; Absent,none. M COM MICATIONS were read and referred to the proper order of businesti ORDINANCE NO.136- By motion made by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee Geo P. Wilson, Ordinance No.-136 providing for the repair of sidewalks,-was adopted. On calling the roll the vote stood as follows: Ayes,Trustees H.A. Robinson, J. J. Schnitker ,Geo.P.',7ilson,J.C,P +icCain and J.P.Greeley. Noes,None; absent,none. ORDINANCE TO PREVENT TRUCKS DRIVING OVER SIDEWALKS. It was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee J.C. McCain and carried that the City Attorney be instructed to draft an Ordinance prohibiting trucks driving over and. damaging sidewalks. DISPOSITION OF COLUIUNICATIONS. The communications were disuosed of as follows: In re that of the Newport Beach lumber regarding the opening of 26th Street over the railroad- tracks,it was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitkei seconded by Trustee J:P.Greeley and carried that the City Engineer be instructed to make profile and the City Attorney to draft a pe- tition to the State Commission, The letter of John IScMillan,Post Llaster,e.sking the City to purchase `',100.worth of War Savings Certi£ioates,was filed. d 250 In connection with the letter of the Southern California Edison Co. stating that they were unable at the present time to install lights on -Newport Heights,it was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and carried that the Gas Manager be instructed to makelan estimate of the cost of installation of gas lights. In connection with the letter of Leeds & Barnard concerning the cost of inspection after the date fixed for the original completion of the Jetty,it was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee ;eo.F. *7ilsoh and carried that the matter ,be left to the discretion of I Engineer ^.K.Barnard. RENEWAL OF CONTRACT "ITH THE UESTINGHOUSE LAMP CO. By motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and duly carried,it was ordered that the contract with the Zastingholse Lamp Co. be renewed. I PROP:RTY BOOKS. It was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and Grried that tine matter o.t Property Books be left in Je ` e hands of ti]e Clerk and the Finance Committee. LETTER OF LEO GOEPPER REGARDING REQUEST OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY for the funds collected as fines for violation of the State Iviotor vehicle Laws to be turned over to t he,County,was,by motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley; seconded by Trustee Ge0.P.Wilson and carried,referred to the City Attorney. SALE OF JETTY BONDS TO THE STATE OF. CALIFORNIA. The State Board of Control by and on behalf of the State of California,having filed with the Clerk the written bid of the State f California for 48 of the Jetty Bonds of said city,being Bonds Nos. 209- 256,both inclusive,aggregating .823,437.50 princi,pal,and accrued interest thereon, on motion of Trustee J C.IticCain,seconded by Trustee, J.J.Schnitker and duly ca'rried,tiie said bid was accepted,and Jetty Bonds I;os.209 to 25G inclusive,representing the sum of .',23,437.50 were ' sold to the State of California for their . par value and accrued interest. INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE NO.138., Ordinance No.138 providing for the change of n.=e of certain streets was introduced and passed to second reading by motion of Trustee J.J.Scbnitker,seconded by Trustee J.r.Greeley and duly carried. nDVERTISEHtNT OF CHANNEL BONDS. By motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by, Trustee Geo.'Vlilson a'nd carried,-the City Clerk was instructed to advertise the sale of the Channel °onds for three weeks iii the Slew -port News. _iEPORT'ON Sh--3ER SYSTEM. The report of the City Engineer on 'the proposed Sevrer System was read in full. It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.P.Greeley and carried that the City Engineer be iristructed to draw plans and specifications according to Plan No.3. DEMANDS ALLOYED. It was moved by Trustee Ceo.. ^.Ji.1son,seconded,by Trustee J..J. Scliiitker and carried that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn to cover. DEMAND OF AUTO CLUB ALL017ED. ' By motion of Trustee J.P. Greeley, seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson, the'Demand of the Automobile Club of Soutilarii California for installing street signs at railroad crossings be allowed.
