It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J. 3ohnitker and duly carried that the guaranty feature of the contract with the Wilson-Bros.Co.for operating the ferry be eliminated. The roll was called and the Trustees voted as follows: Ayes,Trustees J.P. Greeley ,J.J.Schnitker,J.C.McCain and L.S.Wilkinson; absent,Geo.P, Wilson. By motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.C. and duly carried,the Board a4journed sine die. City Hall,Newport Beach,May 5,1919, 7 :30 P.M. The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beaeh.met in reguli monthly session at the place and on the hour above mentioned. The ro: was called and all the Trustees were present as follows: Trustees J.P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker ,Geo.P.Wilson;J.C.MeCain and L.S.Wilkinson. The Minutes of April 7th and April 14th were read and approved with corrections noted in those of the 7th. The reports of Heads of Departments were read and by motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson and carried, were accepted and ordered filed. . , , Trustee J.C.McCain reported on the procuring of a Ford truck the use of the Street Department. Trustee L.S.Wilkinson reported on light and water service to Newport Heights. It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seeonded by Trustee J.C. McCain and carried that the City Electrician be instructed to make estimate of the cost of extending electric line to furnish domestic light to the residents on Newport Heights. THE COMllNNICATIONS WERE READ. It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,secgnded by Trustee Geo.P Wilson and carried that the matter of furnishing city water to the Palisades and others on mainland through the Balboa Island system be referred, to the Water Committee with .power to act.. The letter of Dr.R.D.Fleming was referred to the Street Commi The communication of C.G.Rodger regarding the burning out of li on Balboa Island by The Southern California Edison Co.was referred t the City Clerk with instructions to write to the Edison Co. by motio of Trustee J.J.Sehnitker,seconded by Trustee. J.C.McCain and carried. By motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee L.S. Wilkinson and earried,the request of g.Eawai for license to operate a restaurant was granted. The request of Hugh McMillan to transfer business license No.55 to Mrs.M.Graves was granted by motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson, seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and duly carried. Permit to cross sidewalk with a motor vehicle at Lot 6,Block B, Balboa Bayside Tract,was granted to B.P.Raiche by motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,seconded by Trustee J.C.McCain and carried. The request of J.A.Prter for canedllation of Licenee.No.316 for February,1919,was granted by motion of Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee Geo:P.Wimson and duly carried. 910 The communication of J.A.Porter regarding the amending of Sec.6 of Ordinance No.63 covering electric light wiring, was placed in the hands of the City Attorney for formulation of such amendment by motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson and carried. The letter of J.A.Porter regarding Ordinance N0.43 not covering the fire limit requirements of the newly annexed territory in the oil was referred'td the City Attorney with instructions to draught an amendment covering this'm6tter,by motion of Trustee J.J.Schnitker, seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson and carried. 'The communication of C.H.Elmendorf was filed. The letter of Major Chas.T.Leeds regarding water terminals;..was filed. The communication of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce with letter of the Board of Health attached,making certain reeommendatione for the care-of campers during the summer season,was referred to the Street Committee and the City Engineer for recommendation and report next meeting,by motion of Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Sch7Aitker and carried. The communication from the War Department regarding the laying < cables across Newport Bay by the Southern California Edison Co.was V The letter from the Balboa Chamber of Commerce announcing the appointment of S.R.Jumper as an additional member of the Harbor Ca Committee was filed. The letter of J.A.Porter,Pres.of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce relative to the membership of the Harbor Campaign Committee was filed. The letter of Jos.Ferguson protesting payment of second instalm of taxes was filed. The application of Frank W.Terry for permission to build wharf granted by motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,seconded by Trustee J.C.Mo and carried. The matter of the application of Florian.Bosovich to operate a fish stand on the Bay Front was referred to the Street Committee wi recommendation to draw up plan to submit to the Board at next meeti. Ordinance No.150,conearning the Board of Health was presented passed to second reading. On motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,and seconded by Trustee J.C.Mc it was resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach that they hereby abandon and relinquish its right to use any portion land now a part of the Rhine which will be included in an extension e ly of Thirty First Street of Lancaster's Addition to Newport Beach as water way,as the same is proposed to be widened to a width of seventy The roll was called and the following Trustees voted "Aye ": Trustees J,. It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.So and carried that the Street Committee and the City Engineer confer wi a.represeptative of the Fisherman's Association as to the location an cost of a Fisherman's Wharf. It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.I Wilson and carried that the demands be allowed and warrants ordered drawn to cover. By motion of Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee G80.P. and carried,the Board adjourned to 7:30 P.M. Ma 19 City Clerk. City Hall, Newport Beach,Calif., 7:30 P.M., May 19,1919. The -report of the Street Committee and the City Engineer on the proposed Fishermen's Wharf,and the report of the City Engineer on the proposed public landings,were read. n The communications were read and referred to the proper order of business. The communication of the World Trade Club regarding the adopt in The United States and Great Britain of the meter- liter -gram was cussed,and the suggestion in said communication of sending the end ment of the Board,of the meter -liter -gram to Their Excellencies Woodrow Wilson and David Lloyd George,was adopted by motion of Tru L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and duly carried. It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee Geo.P. Wilson and carried that the report of the City Engineer regarding pub.. lie landings be accepted and filed and that steps be taken to build of boat landing at 19th St.in conformity with the recommendation of the City Engineer. By motion of Trustee J.C.MeCain,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson and duly carried,the matter of dredging near the foot of Agate St. Balboa Island,wa referred to the City Engineer. The report of the Street Committe and the City Engineer on the shermen's Wharf was filed. The application of M.E.Baumeister for permit to conduct a Tee t on the SW.30 feet of Lots 1,2 and 3,Block 12,Balboa Tract was nted by motion of Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee Geo.P. carried. The letter from Lieut.H.E.Carse,of the Submarine Base,San Pedro, g information concerning Terminal facilities in Newport Bay,was red to J.A.Armitage and City Engineer Paul F.gressly for reply. In re the petition for the completion of the improvement of Bay ve.from 23rd to 30th Sts,it was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,secoi d by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and carried that the Street Superintends: e instructed to continue the filling of Bay Ave.to 3oth St. It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.C. cCain and carried that the City proceed to vacate a certain portion ay Ave, being on the northerly side and opposite the northerly end o ypress St. It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee eo.P.Wilson and carried that the matter of vacating said portion of ay Ave.be placed in the hands of the City Engineer to start proceedi ion
