The Board of Trustees;'of the City of Newport Beach met in .adjourned session 7 :30 p.m., Monday. July 14th, President Greeley called the meeting to order and the roll i was called showing there were present Trustees, J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, A. L. Heard, L. S. Wilkinson, Absent; Trustee J. C. McCain. Trustee Wilkinson reported for the committee appointed the at West , to investigate the stye t�lights around pool hand two lamp Newport, and recommended if the City had on posts,that they be installed as requested, but If not, two temporary wooden posts be installed. , On motion of J. f.'Schnitker, seconded by trustee`A. L. Heard, and carried, the recommendation of the Committee was accepted, and the clerk instructed to notify the reesaider to around the pool of then o. t Yon taken bh coward i Trustee L'. S. Wilkinson, reported for the Committee appoitte to take care of the Newport Heights light situation, that they had:made no further progress in the matter. And the Committee was continued. ORDINANCE NUMBER 153. Ordinance number 153 was presented for final adoption. The roll was called and Trustees voted as follows: -" Ages, Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, A. L. Heard, and L. S. Wilkinson. Node None, Absent Trustee J. C; MoClin. ORDINANCE NUMBER 154. Ordinance number 154 was presented being an ordinance of the Board of Trustees of 'the City of Newport Beach, declaring vacant for public street purposes, a certain portion of Bay , Avenue within the said city. And upon motion of Trustee J.J. Sobnitkner, seconded by L. S.. Wilkinson, and carried was passed to second reading. This being the hour and date 'set for the receiving and open- ing of bids for the paving of certain streets in the City of Newport Beach. The clerk was instructed to open the bids on hand which were as follows: Rogers Brothers Company 2"5.85,' per square foot. E. Schilling .22� per square foot,_ All said 'bide received were publfcly* opened;' examined and' deplaned, -.apd xeferred'to the Committee of the Ydiiole and the City ,Engineer for investigatioin and _recommendation. ^On= Moti64 of Trustee-L.S.Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee A.L. Heard, and carried. Resolution number 112 was presented. Being a resolution of the'Board of'Trustees, City of Newport Beach, ordering certain work to be done upon certain portions of the alley situated between Surf Avenue and Central Avenue, from the westerly line of Washington Street to the easterly line of Alvarado Street in sAld City, and upon motion of J. J. Sehnitker, seconded by Trustee A. L. Heard, was carried by the following vote�,,,dTrustees J. E. Greeley, J. J. Sehnitker A. L. Heard, and L. S,'Wilkinson, Noes None, Absent J. 0. McCain. The matter of procuring deed from the La Habra�'Land and Water Company to that portion of'ground needed for the sewage disposal works was placed in the hands of the City Engineer and City Treasurer with power to act, and with instructions to procure same based upon payment al- ready made, if possible. ... The matter of fishing boats tying to the guide stakes along the channel in Newport Bay, was referred to the City Engineer with instructions to draft ordinance covering same. j 1 CNZA I'Trua�ee Wilkinson reported a,narrow place in the newly str aced road on Bay Avenue, which is dangerous to the traveling public. Also reporteduat 30th Street in front of Mrs. Wood's store, had not been sprinkled for,several days. The matter was referred to the Street Committee and Street Superinten- dent with power to act. This being the day and hour set.for receiving,and opening (the bids for the construction of pier and landing on 19th street, the clerk was instructed to open the bids on hand which were as follows: Mercereau Bridge and Construction Company $1795600, Wilson Brothers Company X650.00, necessary piling to be furnished by,City. All bids were rejected with the exception of [Nilson Brothers Company, which was accepted on moti6t2of Trustee' J. J. Schnitker, seconded by Trustee �. S. Wilkinson,and carried by the,following vote: Ayes Trustees ,7. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, A. L. Heard, and,L..S. Wilkinson, Noes none. Absent, Trustee J. C. 1 McCain. It was moved by Trustee J. J. Schnitker, seconded by Trustee A. L. Heard and c rried9thnt contract be prepared and Pres- ident, and clerk,) ,card of Trustees, of the City of Newport Beach, be authorized to sign same Upon filing of proper bond by Wilson Brothers Company. 1 This being the hour and date.set for the receiving and open- ing of bids for the constructing of small whprf at the and of 30th street, City of,Newport Beach The clerk was in- structed to open the bids on hand which were as follows: Mercereau Bridge and Construction Company 86995.00, Check for $3100.00 accompai{¢:ng the bid. On motion of Trustee A. L. Heard, seconded by Trustee J. J..Schpitker, and carried, all bids were rejected with the exception of the Mercereau Bridge and Construction Company which was accepted, and the City Engineer instructed to prepare contract and President and Clerk authorized to sign same,when proper bond is filed with the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach, by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J, P, Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, A. L. Heard, and L. S. Wilkinson. Noes none, Absent Trustee J. C. McCain. , On motion of Trustee L.'S. wilkineon, seconded by Trustee A. L. Heard, and carried, the bond of contractors was.fixed yat 50% of contract price. Ion motion of 9rustee J. J. Schnitker, seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson, and carried, the clerk was instructed to return,the c4eck to the Meeereau )midge and Construction Company for $180.00,.received with their bid on the 19th street landing..This bid being rejected. , . . , On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson, Seconded by Trustee J. J. Sohnitker, and carried, the application of R. J. Shafer to conduct AU fish market located on the Southern Pacific Wharf,was granted: TAe request of A. W' Jaokson,Assietant Fire Chief, for supplies for fire department number 2, was referred to the Fire and water Committee with power to act. (Trustee L. S. Wilkinson reported for the Fire and Water Committee that he was.unfamiliar with some of the things asked for by the Assistant Fire Chief, but that the matter would be taken up and taken care of at once. On motion of Trustee J., J.. Sehnitker, seconded by Trustee A. L. Heard and carried, the roport was accepted. Adjournment was taken until Thursday July 17th, at 1p.m. On motion of Trustee J. J. Snbnitker, seconded by Trustee A. L. Heard, and carried. 323
