The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on above date. The meeting was called to order by President J. P. Greeley. The roll was called as follows: Present, Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. ' Wilkinson. Absent, Trustees None. The minutes of the previous adjourned meeting were read and approved. The communications were read and referred to the proper orde: of business. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Ordinance No. 181, being an Ordinance prohibiting the playin; of certain games and the performance of certain acts upon portions of the shore of the Pacific Ocean within the City of Newport Beach, was taken up, read, finally considered and on call of the roll passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees None. The Ordinance was thereupon signed and approved by the Presiden- of the Board of Trustees and attested by the Clerk. ORDINANCE NO. 184, providing for the holding of an election within Municipal Improvement District No. 1 of the City of Newport Beach, was taken up, read, finally considered and on call of the roll passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. ' Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees None. The Ordinance was thereupon signed and approved by the Presiden- of the Board of Trustees and attested by the Clerk. The following election board was then appointed for the special election to be held at Balboa Fire Hall on June 7, 1921: Inspector, H. J. Burns, Judge, John Schilling, Clerk, Mrs. Dollie Cubbon. NEW BUSINESS. This being the day and hour fixed for the opening of bids in the matter of an Air Compressor, Motor and Reservoir for our pumping plant, the Board in open session opened, examined and declared all sealed bids received for the said material and work, which bids are as follows: Thomas Haverty Company of Los Angeles for the complete installation of said work, $4190.00 with Cert. Check for $450.00. Mercereau Bridge & Construction Co. of Los Angeles, for the complete installation of said work $2950.00 with Cert.Check for $295.( J. P. Hunter of Los Angeles for construction of Reservoir only $1163.00 with Cert. Check for $117.00. F.J. Kimball Co. of Los Angeles for Air Compressor, Air Lifts, Motor & freight $2153.00 with Cert. Check for $209.30. ' Chase Terry of Los Angeles for the complete installation of said work $3300.00 with Cert. Check for $330.00. Smith - Booth -Usher Co. of Los Angeles for Air Compressor, Motor' etc. without Reservoir $1500.00 with Bond for $150.00. The bids were discussed and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J. J. Schnitker and carried, the matter' was referred to a Committee of the Whole with the City Engineer and Water Superintendent for investigation and report. Trustee Geo. P. Wilson introduced an Ordinance vacating a certain portion of 24th Street; the Ordinance was read and considered and on motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, was ordered filed, to be Ordinance No. i85 and passed to the second reading. 432 -- -= On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the application for transfer of business license of Percy J. Wilson to Finster & Whitson was allowed. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee L.S. Wilkinson and carried, the application of the Newport Harbor Marine Corp. for a permit to build a pier for John Cubbon &n front of Lot 12 in Block 1, Section 1, Balboa Island gaving been approved by the City Engineer, was granted. The application of Sylvester & Roehm for permit to build a ' pier 80 feet from the Bulkhead line in front of Lot 4, Block 8, Section 1 of Balboa Island containing the report of the City Engineer that we cannot grant a permit for more than 50 feet from the bulkhead line, was on motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, referred back to the applicants for correction. The two petitions protesting against the enforcement of the bathing suit Ordinance only in part, were presented and on motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the petitions were received and ordered. filed. Trustee Richter thought vie should start preparations for paving our Streets, and on his motion seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for paving Central Avenue, Bay Avenue and any other streets it was thought advisable to pave at this time. City Engineer Kressly reported that they had not been able to get anything definite out of the P. E. Officials in regard to the right -of -way along'Central Avenue, and on motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee J. J. Schnitker and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to commence condemnation proceedings against the Pacific Electric Railway or Land Co. for the right -of -way along Central and Bay Avenues. On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and carried, that the City Clerk be instructed to write to the proper department of the Pacific Electric Railway Co. statin ' that the City Attorney has been instructed by the Board of Trusteg es to begin condemnation proceedings unless we are favored with a reply at once. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and carried, the request of the Women's Civic League for permission to put some rustic benches in the City Park made from trimmings of the trees, was allowed. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:30 o'clock P. M. on Thurdday, May 19, 1921. es rd of Trustres. ATTEST: Y Clerk.
