HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/15/1921 - Adjourned Regular MeetingAM City Hall, Newport Beach, Aug. 11, 1921 The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned session at 10:00 o'clock A.i.1. on above date. The meeting was called to order by President J. P. Greeley. The roll was called as follows: Present Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter. Absent Trustee L. S. Wilkinson. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to prepare the. necessary plans and specifications for the construction of a wharf at Main Street and for a wharf and landing at Washington Stree within said City, for which improvements Municipal Improvement District No. 1 was formed and bonds voted to pay the costs and expenses thereof. On motion of Trustee Goo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and carried, the petition of the property* owners of Block C Newport Bay Tract between Alvarado Place and Coronado Street to form an assessment district for dirting the alley in said Block, was referred to the City Engineer for approval. The Clerk reported that the cement sidewalk in front of Lot 18 in Block 27 Newport Beach Tract had been undermined by children and was liable to cave in any time, and on motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the Clerk was instructed to notify the Orange County Improvement Association to whom the lot belongs of the condition of same. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the meeting adjourned. to Monday, August 15, 1921 at 10:00 o'clock A. Y. Wilkinson. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, the permits of A. W. Jackson to repair the wharfs of Chas. Mackey and Mrs. A. R. Hervey having been approved by the City Engineer, were granted. The matter of one of our teamsters, Frank Williams, being sick and unable to properly handle the team was brought up, and Street Superintendent Knight stated he had given him two weeks vacation to recuperate. j Trustee-Schnitker reported that the Advertising Committee of the Chamber of Commerce had been asked by the Los Angeles Times for I some views of our Harbor for an early edition of the Times, and on I ot -ion: of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee J. The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular session at 7:30 o'clock P. I.I. on above date. The meeting was called to order by President J. P. Greeley. The roll was called as follows: Present, Trustees J. P.Gree1 J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. Absent, Trustees None. The minutes of the adjourned meetings of August 8, 11 and 15, 1921 were read and approved. ax . a -I 9' -1. The reports of the heads of the various departments were mead and on motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee J.J. Schnitker and carried, the reports were accepted and ordered filed. Trustee Schnitker reported for the Committee appointed to see about getting a lot for a driveway on the Northerly side of the City Hall, that we could get either Lot 8 or Lot 11 in Block 20 First Addition for X1,000.00, and we pay half the expense of moving the house on the adjoining lot, and the Committee recommended that we buy Lot 8 next to the bungalettes. On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee Geo.P. Wilson and carried, that we act on the recommendation and the City Clerk authorized to enter into a contract with Mr. Luxembourger on the basis of 9300.00 down and the balance January 3, 1922 or more time will be granted if the City desires. On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee J. J. Schnitker and carried, that we act at once on the recommendation of Street Superintendent Knight for repairing the County bridge and the same be done now. On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to look over the Balboa Island bridge and report at the next meeting the expense of repairing same. After some discussion in regard to the expense of the Police Department, on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the extra police officers put on for the summer months were to be dispensed with on the i5th of September. Trustee Richter referred to the report of the Water Superin- tendent to the effect that it was absolutely necessary to renew the line from the pumping plant to the reservoir for which we would have to get a right -of -way, and also to buy additional water bearing land which would approximate 5$75,000.00 and which would have to be done by a bond issue. The matter was discussed at length and on motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for an estimate of the cost by next Monday night.
