I'd like to add my voice in support of Catherine O'Hara for the Steering Committee. Her educational and professional experience make her uniquely qualified to represent our interests in an informed, thoughtful and even handed manner. I have known Catherine for over thirty years and have always been impressed by her commitment to the community in general and to planning in particular. I believe she will look at the Update with an open mind, informed by her training, without a political agenda and I would like to see all Steering Committee members approaching the Committee from that viewpoint. I couldn't think of a better fit for this position. As a resident of Newport Beach for over 40 years, primarily in Harbor View Homes, I am extremely interested in Newport's growth and your plan to do a comprehensive update of our General Plan with a public input process. Catherine and I volunteered in various capacities at OLQA including working with CDM High School on traffic issues and redirection. She is thoughtful , forward thinking, and analytical when it comes to future developments and planning, as her background can attest, but also a considerate and respectful listener and team player. As a Newport Beach resident for so many years, she can also give the necessary perspective of controlled growth and positive planning for our city, her city. I am writing this email in the highest support of Catherine O'Hara being confirmed as a committee member of the General Plan Update Steering Committee in your council meeting tonight, Tuesday, March 12, 2019. My husband and I raised our children in Harbor View Homes (the Port Streets) for 20 of those 25 years of being a property owner. I was and am involved in many community and civic activities with Catherine O'Hara and formed a friendship with her during those activities over all these years. She is a solid, responsible, giving and credible friend, neighbor and citizen of Newport Beach. Her education and professional credentials, as I am sure you know, are a B.A. in Social Ecology from UCI and a M.A. in Environmental Planning from UVA. She has more than twenty years working for municipalities where she specialized in general plan updates and environmental reviews. Therefore, on a professional level, she has the education, experience and qualifications specifically in general plan updates and environmental review that would make her a valuable asset as a Newport Beach citizen representative for the General Plan Update Steering Committee. In my discussions with her, she has goals for the committee for the common good of representation to the city and its citizens in regards to fiscal responsibility and balanced plans for future growth. As a Newport Beach resident, I highly value what she has to offer the city as a member of this committee. I can think of no reason where she wouldn't be the first choice for an open seat on the committee and would be an incredible addition to the committee. As I've already mentioned, as a citizen of Newport Beach combined with her professional credentials, she is uniquely qualified to be a valuable asset to the committee. In my opinion as a fellow citizen, voter and property owner in Newport Beach, I highly recommend her being confirmed for the committee based on her integrity, experience and qualifications. Thank you for your attention and consideration of my email regarding this final confirmation of Catherine O'Hara. If you should have any further questions of me, my phone number is 949.244.2944 or 949.644.8811.
