HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/20/1925 - Regular Meeting268 The application of Ben Cope to construct a pier in front of Lot 6 Block 2, Balboa Bayside Tract for Luticia Link letter was referred to the City Engineer for the usual two weeks. A communication from Ben Cope offering the City the use of a new Barge equipped with a pump and fire hose connections was read. The offer was accepted and a vote of thanks was given Mr Cope`, On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young and carried the Clerk was ordered to 'make the following transfer of funds as recom. mended by the City Treasurer. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried the demands as approved by the finance committee were allowed and war- rants ordered drawn. There being no further business on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded b Trustee Wilkinson and carried the meeting was adjourned to 7 :30 o clock P.M. Monday July 20, 1925. Apprmved 7 / t Attes Cleric, City of Newport heath City Hall, Newport Beach,Calif. my 20th, 1925 The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular session on the above date. The meeting was called to order by Free. Geo.P.Wilson. The roll was called 'showing the full board present. Trustee Richter, reporting for the committee appointed to look into the action of Axia'Goodykoonts who recovered two bodies from the Bay on July 3rd, reported the recommendation on the committee was that an effort be made to procure a scholarship from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission; On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded Vy Trustee Sloan and carried the report was accepted, the committee discharged and the City Clerk was ordered to write to Carhegie Hero Fund Commission,stating the facts of the case and applying for a scholarship for Miss Goody - koontz. On motion of Trustee Young, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried Geo.C.Heiner was granted a three year expension on his Bait Concession on the Newport Pier. The new lease to be $70.00 per month for the months of June, July, August and SepVember. Water Bond First Reading.. Resolution No, 337. Trustee Conrad Richter introduced a resolution entitled as follows: A resolution of the City of Newport Beach, a municipal corporation incor porated under the laws of the State of California, by its Board of Trust tees, as the legislative branch thereof, determining that the public interest and als the public necessity demands the completion by the City of Newport &aoh of the Municipal Water Works of said City, and that the same is'necessary and convenient to carry out the objects,pj�.. poses and powers of the municipalitli the cost of which will be too great to be paid-out of the ordinary income'and revenue of the City of Newport Beach. Rhis resolution was ordered filed, read, considered,designated Resolution No. 337 and passed to the second reading. n The request of A.W.Jackson, Fire Chief for additional equipment and a telephone for the fire hall, was referred to the Fire and Water Commit-. tee.rith power to act, 269 A communication from Walter Burris offering to sell the City Lots 89 9 amd 10 in Block 20, First Add to Newport Beach was referred to the Committee as a Wh ®le. Street °Superintendent Rinehart submitted a communication regarding the surfacing of the 26th and 30th street crossings with concrete. There being no objection the communication was referred to the Street Superintendent and City Engineer for investigation and•report_at the next meeting. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried the report of Mr Harry Welch, City Advertising Manager on his trip to San Francisco and Seattle was accepted and ordered filed. The petition of 14 property owners on Newport Heights requesting gas in that portion of the city was referred to the City Clerk to take up with the Gas Co. On motion of Trustee Richter, seconded by Trustee Young and carried the tentative draft of the Building Code as presented by the Orange County Committee was tabled until a survey on the Code as presented could be made. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee young and carried the Map of Tract No. 772 was referred to tbd Planning Commission. The protest of M.Simberg on the charge made for water st the resi- dence of T.J.Kennard, Newport was referred to the Water Superintendent. On motion of Trustee Richter, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried the City Clerk was ordered to write the Compensation Insurance Company ordering additional insurance for the Volinteer Firemen of thisCEity. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Young and carried the expenditure of 0350.00 out of the advertising fund was approved for the expenses of one representative to go to Canada with a party of 25 men in connection with an advertising proposition sponsered by the South Coast Association, Mr Geo.Neil, Secly of the Balboa Chamber of Commerce appeared before the Board of Trustees regarding the petition presented some time ago. There was some discussion and on motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried the Clerk was ordered to write the Balboa Chamber of Commerce that the Board of Trustees meeting as a committee of the whole had gone Into the matter and that it was their belief that the police officers had handled the traffic on the day of the Bathing Girl Parade to the best of their ability and-that no evidence had been submitted that proved that any :.turning back of traffic had been done. On motion of Trustee Richter, seconded by Trustee Young, Deputy Harbor Master Spofford was given a raise in salary of $25.00 per month by the following vote. AYES. Trustees H:C.Sloan, Fred W.Young, Conrad Righter and S.L.Wilkinson NOES. Trustees Geo.P.Wilson ABSENTEES fuustees None. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Young and carried the demands as approved by the finance committee were allowed and warrants ordered drawn.
