B. ;Iodjeska and carried, the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce were authorized to disburse $500.00 per month for three months for advertising in Los Angeles and outside newspapers but not to exceed $1,500.00 in all; and were also allowed not to exceed $312.50 for races and other activities, and the original bills to be attached to the demands for same. The matter of the Fire Chief was taken up and on motion of Trustee Harry H. llilliamson seconded by Trustee F. B. kodjeska and carried, the former Volunteer Fire Co. were asked to appoint a committee to meet with the Board of Trustees some night this week ' when convenient to the Board of Fire Underwriters, the committee to be n6tified when the date is set. President Conrad Richter brought up the matter of refund of taxes asked for by 17. T. Ohowell.on.his garage, and on motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee F. B. Modjeska and carried, the matter was referred to Mr. Ohowell to make a demand for the proper amount and the same.to be referred to the City Assessor for-report. City Engineer Kressly asked permission to employ a landscape artist for beautifying Corona Del Mar, which was discussed, and on motion of Trustee F. B. 1�odjeska seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the City Engineer was granted permission to do so with the understanding that the cost was to be assessed against the property and without any obligation on the part of the.City of Newport Beach. There being no further business on motion of Trustee F. B. Modjeska seconded by Trustee Fred 61. Young and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:30 o'clock P. City Clerk. 1 City Hall,.Nlewport Beach, April 16, 1927- The Board of Trustees of.the City of Newport Beach met in regular adjourned session at 7:30 o!clock P. :,:. on above date. The meeting was called to.order by President Conrad.Riohter. The roll was called showing President Conrad Richter and Trustees L. S. Wilkinson and Fred 17. Young present. The-minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. This being the time set for opening bids for a new fire hall, the Board•in.open session publicly opened, examined and declared all sealed bids received, which were as follows: 71heitbrecht Eng. & Const. The communications were read and acted upon as follows: The petition signed by 295 residents asking that the license ordinance be left the way it is, was presented, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the petition was referred to the committee having the license matter in charge. On motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the application of Clinton Mc Elheny as Fire Chief was filed. 422 The report of the City larshal and Street Superintendent endorsing the location of the skating rink on Central Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets, was read, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred V. Young and carried, the report was accepted and the matter referred to the Committee of the Whole. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee.Fred 11. Young and carried, the coinnunication from the Realty Investigation Syndicate asking permission to put a seawall around tidelands in Tideland Location.Mo. 267, was referred to the City-Attorney to report as to the legal status of the.ma.tter. On motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the protest of M. E. Brown against the Ordinance prohibiting the use of more than two )oles at a time by fishermen on the piers, was filed. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred C1. Young and carried, the notice of withdrawal of dedication by Wm. P. Boland and aildred Boland was filed. On motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the communication of 17m. Elkins and J. G. Hees objecting to a lunch wagon on the corner of Adams and Bay Front were filed. On motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the request to construct a pier by Chas. Lippman in front of Lot 19, Block 18, Tract 777, was referred to the City Engineer. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded. by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the request of Ben Cope for permission to construct a pier in front of Lot 3, Block 2, Section 5, Balboa Island for R. J. 17ig was allowed when proper- application is filled out. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the application of Geo. L. Heacock for license to sell grape punch at retain from a wagon, was filed. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the application of H. H. Tackels for license to run a Cafe, Dance and Entertainers at 301 Palm Street, Balboa, was allowed. The matter of light standards was considered, and on motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and speci- fications for the sidewalk and ornamental lighting system for Coast Boulevard on Corona Del !tar, with an estimate of the cost of same. The City Clerk was instructed to notify the signers on the petition that the two signs could not legally be included in the proveedings. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred 71. Young and carried, the communication from the Fire Chief asking to have some district cards printed, was referred to the Fire Committee and Fire Chief with power to act. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred 17. Young and carried, the request of E. n4. Burris for permission to build a landing at the foot of Canal Clay on Balboa Island was allowed when accompanied•by a proper sketch and on proper form. . Resident Engineer Edwards reported that C. 0. Colf was the lowest bidder for the fire hall being 31,783.00, but had ro.check accompanying same. The next two bids were Thermon Means of Santa Ana X1,843.00 and John Roehe of Ne-�port Beach 01,850.00. The matter was discussed and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred 17. Young and carried, the bids were laid over for one week and the Clerk-instructed to ascertain what a suitable place for housing the new engine could be rented for by the month for the present. All bids except the two lowest were rejected and any checks accompanying the rejected bids to be returned. The matter of licensing games was discussed, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the application of Geo. K. Noland for license to operate a Housie - Housie Game at 108 Main Street, Balboa, was allowed. Trustee Fred 7. Young introduced an ordinance entitled: A:E ORDINANCE OF.THE CITY OF 1dE17PORT BEACH CONCERNING T?.E,USE OF FISHIYG LINES OR TACKLE UPON PUBLIC DOCKS Ii SAID CITY, A72 PRC)VIDINIG A PE11TALTY 7OR ALL VIOLATIOiTS THEREOF. The Ordinance was read, considered, designated Ordinance No. 316 and referred to the City Attorney. "17 423 As Trustee Williamson was not present President Conrad Richter appointed Trustee Young on the Finance Committee for the evening. Trustee L. S. Wilkinson stated that the people in West Newport were desirous of having street crossing across the Pacific Electric and Southern Pacific tracks on Orange Street, and on his motion seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried,-the Clerk.was Instructed to correspond with the Pacific Electric and Southern Pacific Co. in regard to obtaining a crossing there. On motion of Trustee L. Be Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the demands -No. 1902 to 1910 inclusive, having been signed and approved by the Finance Committee, were allowed and warrants to be drawn for same. On motion of Trustee L. Si Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and oarrled,.the City Marshal was instructed to investi- gate the report of a canvas tent being erected on the back of a lot on 3oth Street which is in the fire zone. City Hall, Newport Beach, April 25, 1927- The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular adjourned session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on above date. The meeting was oalled to order by President Conrad Richter. The roll was called showing the full Board present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. The report of the Fire Committee on the purchase and sale of material for -the Fire Department was read, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee F. B. Modjeska and carried, the report was accepted and the purchase of the material reported upon favorably, and the selling of junk and printing of district cards was authorized. The communications were read and acted upon as follows: On motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and oarried, the protest in regard to shaling Zey Avenue from Main to A Street, Balboa, was referred to the Committee having the parking - matter in charge. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and oarried, the application of J. R. Mc Kay for license to run a bathhouse and lunch stand was granted. On- motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the application of Mrs. Nellie Hachem for license to operate a lunch, soft drink and ice dream stand on Lot 12, Blook 116, Tract 234,.was granted. On- motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and oarried, the application of S. H. Blassman for license to smoke, pickle, salt and sell fresh fish in the old Newport cannery building was- referred -to the City Marshal for report and recommendation. The application of Sol Miller for monthly license to peddle hoisery was discussed, and on motion of Trustee F. B. Modjeska seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the Clerk was instructed to notify him that the Ordinance provided a daily license only for that business. On-motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the application of C. A. Bachman for license to operate-a merohandise wheel was referred to the City Marshal for a report and recommendation.
