and carried, the permit from the War Department to do the dredging
northerly of the bulkhead line between 7th and 8th Streets, was filed.
On motion of Councilman Hilmer seconded by Councilman Claire
and carried, the request of Griffith Company for 30 days extension of
time on their Bay Avenue contract, was allowed.
City Engineer Patterson presented the contract with the
Newport Beach Boat Builders for dredging the channel northerly of the
bulkhead line between Stations 116 and 117 in Newport Bay, and on motion
of Councilman Garfield seconded by Councilman Ellsworth, the Mayor and
Clerk were authorized to sign the contract by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES, Councilmen Hilmer, Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Johnson.
NOES, Councilmen None.
ABSENT, Councilmen None.
The letter from the Metropolitan Dater District giving the
information asked for before making a request for annexation was read,
and on motion of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Ellsworth
and carried, the communication was filed.
On motion of Councilman Hilmer seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried, the City Clerk was instructed to make application to the
Board of Directors of the Metropolitan dater District for consent to
annex the City of Newport Beach to said Metropolitan slater District.
W. P. True verbally addressed the Council in regard to the
pier-permit asked for, and Mayor Johnson advised him to call upon the
City Attorney at his office and he would explain just what the Council
would do in the matter and draw up any papers necessary.
City Attorney Thompson stated he would like to have the firm
of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher examine the proceedings for Acquisition and
Improvement District No. 1 of the City of Newport Beach, and on motion
of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Hilmer and carried, the
City Attorney was authorized to secure Gibson,- Dunn & Crutcher to pass
on the proceedings referred to.
There being no further business on motion of Councilman Claire
seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the meeting adjourned to
7:30 o'clock P. M. on Monday, June 29, 1931-

Pursuant to call thereof by the Mayor of the City of Newport
Beach and notice delivered to each member at least three hours before
the.time specified for the meeting, the City Council met at the place
and on the date above mentioned at 7:30 o'clock P.M. The meeting was
called to order by Mayor Johnson.
The roll was called shoving Councilmen Claire, Garfield and
Mayor Johnson present. Absent Councilmen Hilmer and Ellsworth. '
The Call was read and a letter of explanation from John J.
Wilson, Attorney for the Lido Isle Trust interests, and the Council
proceeded to consider the matter for which the meeting was called,
namely, to order the Street Superintendent to make a report and amend-
ed assessment of Assessment No. 2714 for the improvement of Central
Avenue and certain other streets, alleys and rights -of -way made under
Resolution of Intention No. 133, and assessment No. 1405 for the .
improvement of Central Avenue and certain other streets and alleys
made under Resolution of Intention No. 196.
On motion of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried the communication from Attorney Wilson was accepted and
filed.
Councilman Claire introduced a Resolution entitled:

NEWPORT BEACH ORDERING THE SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS
OF SAID CITY TO PREPARE A REPORT AND AN AMENDED ASSESS -
MENT OF ASSESSMENT NO. 1405 FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF
CENTRAL AVENUE AND CERTAIN OTHER STREETS AS PER RESOLU-
TION OF INTENTION NO. 196.
The Resolution was read, considered, designated RESOLUTION
NO. 695, and upon call of the roll passed by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES, Councilmen Claire, Garfield, Johnson.
NOES, Councilmen None.
ABSENT, Councilmen Hilmer and Ellsworth.
Councilman Garfield introduced a Resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ORDERING THE SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS -
OF SAID CITY TO PREPARE A REPORT AND AN AMENDED ASSESS -
KENT OF ASSESSMENT NO. 2714 FOR THE SEWER IMPROVEMENT
IN CENTRAL AVENUE AND CERTAIN OTHER STREETS AS PER
RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 133.
The Resolution was read, considered, designated RESOLUTION
N0. 696, and upon call of the roll passed by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES, Councilmen Claire, Garfield, Johnson.
NOES, Councilmen None.
ABSENT, Councilmen Hilmer and Ellsworth.
On motion of Councilman Garfield seconded by Councilman Claire
and carried, Arthur M. Ellie' Office was authorized to carry on all
necessary proceedings in the matter without cost to the City.
There being no further business embodied in the call, on
motion of Councilman Claire
the meeting adjourned.

City Hall, Newport Beach, June 29, 1931.
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on above date. The meeting was
called to order by Mayor Johnson.
The roll was called showing the full Council present.
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 15th and the
special meeting of June 23rd were read and approved as read.
City Attorney Thompson presented a written report in regard to
the Fred B. Mills property in East Newport purchased from the City,
stating that inasmuch as the Resolution of abandonment had not been
recorded at the time Mr. Mills purchased the property from the City and
he would not have purchased it had he known the street was abandoned, he
would adSrise re- dedicating the street. On motion of Councilman Claire
seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the report was accepted and
filed.
On motion of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Hilmer
and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare an Ordinance
re- dedicating the street in question.
The report of Building Inspector Nelson in regard to the old
building in West Newport complained of belonging to A. J. Borden, was
read, and Mr. Borden was present and addressed the Council explaining
the cause of the delay in repairing the building, and expected now to
proceed faster with the work. The matter was considered and on motion
of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, 30
