HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/17/1933 - Adjourned Regular MeetingADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Council a motion was made by Councilman Claire', seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried that an adjournment be taken to July 17, 1933 at 7:30 o'clock p. m. Approved: City Clerk e Councilman Newport Beach, July 17, 1933 The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular adjourned session in the Council Chambers of the City of Newport Beach at 7:30 o'clock p. m. on above date with Mayor Hilmer in the Chair. The roll was called showing the full Council present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, approved and signed by the members of the Council. SPECIAL COMMITTEES Councilman Garfield reporting on the request of residents of Corona Del Mar for additional life guard service for the district advised the Council that the budget allowance would not permit the necessary expenditure and on motion of Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Claire and carried, the report was accepted. STANDING COMMITTEES None. COMMUNICATIONS 5 A communication concerning sand boxes on the Balboa.Island Bay Front was read and discussed and on motiom of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the matter was laid on the table pending further information. The West Newport Yacht Club applied for permission to hold motor boat and swimming races around Newport Island on Sunday July 30th and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the request was granted. The Southern California Outboard Association asked for permission to hold unmuffled outboard motor boat races in the Upper County Channel between 9 a. m. and 5 P. in. August 6, 1933 and. on motion ' of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the. request was allowed. Russell B.. Garmong, Commander of the Compton Chapter of D. A. V. asked for permission for them to hold their annual picnic on the beach near 20th Street, Newport Beach, including the shooting of fireworks, and on :notion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the request was allowed subject to proper supervision. A letter from a Seismological Society was read and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the letter was referred to the Building Inspector. 6 UNFINISHED BUSINESS It was moved by Ellsworth and carried that by that body be adopted. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman the Chamber of Commerce budget as gesented 01 Ordinance No. 419 establishing closing hours for certain _ businesses came up for final passage, its adoption was moved by Councilman Claire and the measure was passed by the following roll call vote, to -wit: ' AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hilmer. NOES: Councilmen None. ABSENT: Councilmen None. The Ordinance amending License Ordinance No. 393 and particularly that portion pertaining to peddlers as contained in Sections 34 and 35, was presented for final passage. The Ordinance was read, considered and designated Ordinance No. 420. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the license fees for Section 1 and Section 2 of the Ordinance was established at $100.00 annually for each section. On motion of Councilman Claire, Ordinance No. 420 was adopted. by the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hilmer. NOES: Councilmen None. ABSENT: Councilmen None. The matter of private construction encroaching upon City property was discussed and on motion of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the Building Inspector was instructed to prevent further violations. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Council, it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried that an adjournment be taken Sine Die.
