Councilman _iii.../ Newport Beach, January 4, 1937, The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall in the City of ' Newport. Beach at 7:30 P. M. on above date with Mayor Williamson presiding, The roll was called and the following Councilmen answered present: Gordon, Claire, Whitson, Garfield, Williamson. Absent; None. The report of the City Treasurer was read, andron motion of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Claire and carried, the the report was accepted, the reading of the reports of other Heads of Departments dispensed with, and all the reports ordered filed. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COkMI'TTEES None. REPORTS OF STAADIZG CUMkITTEES None. CO&kUNI CA' %IONS The communication of Grainger Hyer in connection with the application of &panning Seimon for rezoning of Lot 16, Block 14, Section 4, Balboa Island, was read. Grainger Hyer also addressed the Council concerning the matter, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, that the same be referred to the Planning Commission for report. The communication of Grainger Hyer regarding the widening of Marine Avenue from Balboa Avenue to the North Speedway was read, and considered, and on motion of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Claire and carried, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for ' report. The letter of Capt. Jessie Skeen expressing appreciation for the service and courtesy shown by the Harbor Master in protecting the boats in the bay during the recent storm, was read, and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the same was referred to the Harbor Master. The request of the ileterans° welfare board of the State of ,California for the cancellation of certain taxes against Lot 19, Block 16, Section 3, Balboa Islanf�* being property owned by said Board, was on motion of Councilman Garfield, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, allowed. , i,: UNFINISHED BUSI.`%ESS None. HEN BUSINESS The monthly demands having been duly audited by'the Finance Committee, were on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, allowed and warrants ordered drawn for same. It was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Whitson and carried, that all salaries of Library employees as approved by the Library Board and subsequently approved and allowed by the City Council be confirmed. Councilman Claire moved the adoption of a resolution, being a resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute on behalf of the City of Newport Beach a quitclaim deed in favor of Charles A. Butler and being a lot in Block "D ", Corona del Mar, bounded westerly by extension of 29th Street (Begonia), and Southerly by County Road, as shown in Miscellaneous Map Book 3, pages 41 and 420 Records of Orange County, California. The motion was duly seconded by Councilman Gordon and the resolution was passed by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Whitson, Garfield, Williamson. NOES: Councilmen None. ABSENT: Councilmen None. ** SEE BELOW FOR RESOLUTION CERTIFICATION City Engineer Patterson reported on the estimated cost of improving and planting to shrubery City owned property adjacent to Lot 1, in Tract 515. The matter was considered, and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, was laid on the table. ADJOURNMENT On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, an adjournment was taken to 7:30 o'clock P.M.
