After some discussion by the members of the City Council, and consid- ering the report of the City Engineer, Councilman Brown offered and moved the adoption of the following resolution, which said motion was seconded by Councilman Claire and carried by the roll call as shown in said resolution: IN THE MATTER OF THE PROPOSED INSTALLATION OF CERTAIN ORNAMENTAL LIGHT POSTS OR STANDARDS ON BALBOA ISLAND IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, written protests representing 7.31% of the total area of the proposed assessment district for the installation of certain ornamental light posts or standards on Balboa Island in the City of Newport Beach, California, were filed with the City Clerk up to the hour set for the hearing August 2nd, 1937, and • WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council that it is not advisable to carry out the proposed improvement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the proposed improvement and all proceedings in connection therewith be abandoned. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was adopted by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, California, at a regular adjourned meeting thereof on the 9th day of August, 1937, by the following vote, to -wit: 16 AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Brown, Williamson. City Engineer, R. L. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Brown, and carried, City Engineer Patterson was authorized to execute and make appli- cation as Sponsor's Agent to the Works Progress Administration for Federal cooperation in constructing the foregoing improvements. City Engineer, R. L. Patterson, presented plans and specifications, for the improvement of parks and grading of parkways in various sections of the city. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon aAd carried, City Engineer Patterson was authorized to execute and make appli- cation as Sponsor's Agent to the Works Progress Administration for Federal cooperation in making the foregoing improvements in the public parks and parkways. A resolution was presented, being a RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE Resolution CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA, No. 1178 EXTENDING THE TIME FOR COMPLETION OF CONTRACT IN THE MATTER OF THE BULKHEAD AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN AND AROUND BALBOA ISLAND. The resolution was read, considered, designated Resolution No. 1178, and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon was adopted by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Bh6Vni,vtWilliameon.!..
