HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-06-1939 - Special Meeting236 MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING Newport Beach, July 6, 1939• The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in Special session in the City Council Chambers. at the City Hall in the City of Newport Beach at 7:30 o'clock p. m. with Mayor Williamson presiding. Roll Call The Call for the .Special Meeting was read, and upon Roll Call the following Councilmen answered.present: Councilmen Gordon, Brown and Williamson. Absent: Councilmen Claire and Whitson. It was moved by Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Williamson and carried, that Councilman Brown be appointed City Clerk pro tem. Assistant to PROPOSITION NO. 1. Consideration of the appointment of Frank Naylor Chief of Police as Assistant.Chief of Police to-take effect from this date. To Repeal PROPOSITION NO. 4. To consider the repeal of the ordinance permitting punch board the operation of Punch Boards and Games of Skill operating in the City of Newport & game ord. Beach. It was moved by Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, that said proposition No. 4 be laid on the table until the next meeting of the City Council. Gambling boat PROPOSITION NO. 5• To consider the transportation of passengers to S.S. Star. and from Newport Beach City pier to S. S. Star and advertising the SS Star on streets of Newport Beach by lights and advertising boards, and review of leases and permits pertaining thereto. It was moved by Councilman Gordon,. seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, that said proposition No. .5 be referred to the City Attorney for his advice as to the legality of using the City Pier for transporting passengers to and from the gambling barge. July • • F- I L It was moved by Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, that said proposition No. 1 be laid on the table until the next meeting of the Council. PROPOSITION NO. 2. Consideration of the abatement of a public nuisance, Gravel pit on namely a certain gravel pit located on Newport Heights. Newport Heights It was moved by Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, that said proposition No. 2 be turned over to the City Attorney for report at the next meeting of the City Council. Employment of PROPOSITION NO. 3. To consider the employment of 40 men under the 40 men under SRA for work in connection with Beach Sanitation under supervision of City SRA Employees and with City equipment. It was moved by Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, that said proposition No. 3 be turned over to the City Engineer for report at the next meeting of the City Council.
