On motion.of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Whitson and carried, the regular order of business was resumed for the purpose of receiv- ing the City Engineer's tentative report on the pier bids, which after being submitted, it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Whitson and carried, that an adjournment be taken to 4 o'clock P.M. Tuesday, January 16th, 1940 for the awarding of the contract. TEST: City Clerk Newport Beach, January 16, 1940 • 0 The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned regular session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall in the City of Newport Beach at 4 o'clock P.M. on above date, with Mayor Williamson presiding. Roll Call The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present:'Gordon, Claire, Whitson, Brown, Williamson. Absent, Councilmen None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Bids on The Mayor announced that the meeting of the Council was for the purpose ' piers,tabulated of awarding the contract to the successful bidder on the Newport and Balboa piers. Whereupon City Engineer Patterson presented the following tabulation of the bids received on January 15, 1940 for the construction of the Balboa pier, Newport pier and work incidental thereto. "CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CALIFORNIA PLAN NO. 407 For construction of Newport Ocean Pier at McFadden Place, consisting of Six (6) Sheets, numbered 1 to 6 inclusive. December 15th, 1939• Approved: Richard L. Patterson CITY ENGINEER" and WHEREAS, MOJAVE CORPORATION was the successful lowest responsible bidder, and the lowest bidder for the doing of said work of improvement so advertised as aforesaid. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the city of Newport Beach does hereby accept the bid of MOJAVE CORPORATION for the doing of the work of improvement heretofore mentioned in this resolution; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said MOJAVE CORPORATION be and the same is hereby awarded the contract for the doing of said work, in accordance with the said Notice Inviting Bids, the instruction to bidders and the other contract documents mentioned in his said bid, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; That the Mayor and City Clerk of the city of Newport Beach be, and they are hereby directed, authorized and instructed to execute the contract for the doing of said work of improvement, in the name of and ' on behalf of the city of Newport Beach I hereby certify that the above and foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach at an adjourned regular meeting thereof held on the 16th day of January, 1940, by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Whitson, Brown, Williamson. NOES: Councilmen None. • ABSENT: Councilmen None. 29t Res. 1715 awarding contract on piers Resolution No.161 of the City Planning Commission recommending a variance Allowing of 60% be granted Joseph B. Parks for Lot 3, Block 1, Section 5, Balboa Island, building laid over from a previous meeting, was brought up, and on motion of Councilman variance to Brown, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, a 60% front yard variance was J.B.Parks granted in accordance with the Planning Commission's recommendation. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES Councilmen Whitson and Gordon advised that it had been tentatively agreed Yacht that when the United States Government was through using the County dock in connect- 'Vida' ion with the work of repairing the jetties, that the boat 'Vida' could tie up at the County dock again. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES None. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the NEW report of the City Engineer was ordered filed. • The demand of City Attorney Thompson, having been approved by the Finance It was moved by Councilman Claire, duly seconded by Councilman Whitson Committee, was on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and that the following Resolution No. 1715 be adopted. ' carried, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, ACCEPT- ING BID AND AWARDING CONTRACT. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach duly caused the City notice to be given for the doing of certain work of improvement in the City of dolphins Newport Beach, which work of improvement is hereinafter more particulaio;;y m6ittioned: which the schooner 'Lottie Carson' is moored. and • WHEREAS, the work of improvement so advertised by the said City Council Authorizing of the city of Newport Beach was the furnishing of all tools, equipment, appratus, Auditor was authorized to appropriate the sum of one hundred dollars for facilities, labor and materials necessary to perform and complete in a good and the employment of M. S. NEW BUSINESS The demand of City Attorney Thompson, having been approved by the Finance Demand Committee, was on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and ' carried, approved and warrant ordered drawn for same. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, Installing the City Engineer was instructed to install two additional dolphins easterly of dolphins those to which the schooner 'Lottie Carson' is moored. • On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Whitson and carried, Authorizing the City Auditor was authorized to appropriate the sum of one hundred dollars for boat the employment of M. S. Robinson in connection with boat appraisals for assessment appraisals purposes. On recommendation of City Engineer Patterson, Councilman Claire moved Advertising that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the furnishing of for Gasolir, gasoline and lubricating oil to the City of Newport Beach. The motion was duly bids. seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried. M Minute Res. authorizing revision of pier plans MINUTE RESOLUTION. Councilman Claire moved the adoption of a Resolution, being a resolution authorizing revision by the City Engineer of Plans No. 406 and 407 for the construction of Balboa and Newport piers as follows: Plan No. 406 changed as follows: Increase width of outer end from 66 feet -toAQ .feet. Increase width of pier from 24 feet to 40 feet between bents #34 and #35• Plan No. 407 changed as follows: Extend pier 20 feet oceanward. Increase width of pier at outer end from 66 feet to 80 feet Construct reinforced cement concrete deck slab, on first 533 feet of pier. The motion was duly seconded by Councilman Brown and the resolution was adopted by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Whitson, Brown, Williamson. NOES: Councilmen None. ABSENT: Councilmen None. I, Frank L.
