The City Council'of the City of Newport Beach met in Special Session in the City Council Chambers, at the City Hall, in the City of Newport Beach on the above date with Mayor Gordon presiding. The Roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present: Reed, Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon. Absent, Councilmen: None. The Call for the Special Meeting was read by the Clerk, the purposes set in the Call for the meeting being as follows: "To consider and act upon the request of City Judge Robert Gardner for a temporary leave of absence from duty as City Judge, said request being due to being called for military duty." "To consider and act upon the appointment of an acting City Judge during the temporary absence of City Judge Gardner, and also the matter of salary to be paid to said temporary appointee." ' On motion of Councilman Reed, seconded by Councilman Claire and carried, the request of Robert Gardner for a temporary leave of absence was granted. The matter of the temporary appointment of an acting City Judge was discussed together with the salary in connection therewith, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen that Harry D. Hyde be appointed as temporary acting City Judge during the absence of Robert Gardner. The motion was duly seconded by Councilman Claire and carried unanimously.
