Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of 9 o'clock a.. m. on above date with Mayor Gordon presiding. Roll call The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present: Reed, Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon. Absent, Councilmen None. • On motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES V.E.Wood Chief of Police Hodgkinson reporting on the application of Valentine report on E. Wood for a license to run a card game in the Webb Building in Newport Beach, application recommended tgat the application be denied. Whereupon it was moved by Council - for license man Allen, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, that the report of the Chief of Police be accepted and the application be denied. Reporting on the suggestion of John F. Vogel that Ordinance No. 312 1st reading of be amended to permit the riding on the south half of the Ocean Front sidewalk, ord amending Chief of Police Hodgkinson advised the'.amendment "of the °Ordinance.as suggested, Ord. 312 - and stated that City Engineer Patterson had estimated the cost of the necessary bicycles on painting of a dividing line for pedestrians and bicyclists at $102.00. Where - sidewalk- upon Councilman Claire moved that an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 312 be passed-to the second reading, the motion was duly seconded by Councilman Allen and the ordinance was passed to the second reading by the following vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Reed, Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon. NOES, COUNCILMEN: None. ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The request of the South Coast Company for an option to lease the South Coast Co. City Camp Grounds and other City property fronting on Central Avenue was option to lease taken up, whereupon Mayor Gordon asked the City Clerk if any protests had City property been filed against the granting of said option and was advised that there were none. Councilman Reed advised that one verbal protest had been made to him informally, then the Mayor asked if anyone present desired to protest Ord. No. 2585 the matter, no one responded, whereupon Councilman Reed moved the adoption of a resolution granting to the South Coast Company the option as requested, the motion being duly seconded by Councilman Claire and carried by the follow - ing vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Reed, Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon. NOES, COUNCILMEN: None. ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None. Re- zoning On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to make application to the Planning , Commission for the re- zoning of all the property north of Central Avenue between 15th and 18th Streets. City Attorney Thompson advised the Council that in the matter of the P.E. r/w City's acquisition of the Pacific Electric right of way that the bonding acquisition attorneys cooperating in the case had suggested riot to hurry the matter inasmuch as a certain suit affecting the case was pending and that it was advisable to await its outcome. On motion of Councilman Allen,'seconded by Councilman Reed and carried., the report of the City Attorney was approved and authority was granted to proceed accordingly.
