HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/07/1944 - Regular MeetingNewport Beach, August 7, 1944 The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular session in the City Council-Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of 4 o'clock p.m. on above date with Mayor Hall presiding. • The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present: Allen Stanley, Isbell, Reed, Hall. Absent, Councilmen, None. Roll Call The Mayor asked if any of the Councilmen or anyone in the audience wished the Minutes of the previous meeting, or any part thereof, read, no one responded and the reading of the minutes was dispensed with. REPORTS OF HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS The report of the City Treasurer was read, and on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Stanley and carried, the report was ordered filed, the reading of the reports of other departmental heads dispensed with and all the reports ordered filed. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMvJTTEES None. REPORTS OF STANDING CON,.MITTEES None. COMMUNICATIONS: The application of R. G. The question of water situa- was discussed at length by the Council, City Engineer and City Attorney, the City tion Engineer's recommendation being the employment of A. L. Sonderegger for the purpose of obtaining an exhaustive report of the water situation as exists at the present time and also for future possibilities, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stanley, seconded by Councilman Allen that the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved at an approximate cost of $1,400.00. The motion was carred by the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Allen, Hall, Stanley, Isbell, -Reed. NOES, COUNCILMEN: None. ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None. The request of Arthur H. Pease for a re- zoning of the Northeast corner of Arthur H. Pease Park and Agate Avenues in order to be used for business purposes was on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, referred to the request for re- zoning Planning Commission. Property owners in the 900 Block, East Ocean Front, Balboa, presented a Petition from petition protesting the issuance of a building permit to Harry Friedman for the residents re: erection of an alleged inferior structure, which according to the complaint, would structure in detract and be detrimental to existing buildings in that vicinity. While the Council 900 Block,Ocean was in sympathy with the petitioners, on advice of the City Attorney that no remedy Front,Balboa was available, it was moved by Councilman Stanley, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, that the City Attorney inform the petitioners accordingly.
