Subject: Providing accurate meeting minutes is a basic service
Dear Council,
The minutes from the last council meeting, which you are being asked to approve tonight, are in fact a bare -bones
summary of the meeting with no detail about what was said or by whom.
Minutes are the official record of council meetings. Providing residents with accurate records of discussions regarding
issues that may affect them is a basic service. Cutting this service with no public discussion or explanation flies in the face
of transparency and good governance.
We are counting on you to restore this basic service starting with the minutes from your last meeting.

Subject: videotaped City Council minutes replacing written ones
Dear Council,
Why would a Council whose stated goal was to have more transparency in government
move in the opposite direction? Two things to consider are: 1. not everybody has
access to a large computer and or the "techie" knowledge which is necessary to
clearly see and hear the videotapes of council meetings and 2. the preservation of
video archives is not foolproof; video archives can be lost or removed at any time,
depriving the public of accurate records of issues that may affect them. This idea
which seems to have come out of nowhere, is not a step forward but backward
regarding good governance. The taping of council sessions was never intended to be
a replacement for paper minutes, but an addition to. Please reconsider this obviously
hasty decision. Thank you, Lynn Lorenz,
