Councilman Lorenz joined the meeting within a few minutes. The Council canvassed the returns, including the absent voters' ballots which had been canvassed on April 19, 1960, by a special board previously ap- pointed by the Council. After the 'canvass of all returns, discrepancies in the returns of two Election Boards, not affecting the outcome of the Election however, were consider- ed., and the following action was taken: The Ballot Statement on the Tally Sheets, for Consolidated Precinct No. 20, indicating 175 Motion x ballots voted, was accepted. All Ayes The count of the total number of votes cast for each individual candidate and of the votes cast for.and against the ballot-measures., indicated on the Tally Sheets of Consolidated Precinct No. 25, was.accePted, and the requirement of a com- Motion x plete Ballot Statement, was waived. Ayes result of Councilman Higbie expressed appreciation to the election Council and members of the staff for cooperation CA -76 during his office as Councilman. Stoddard and Charles E. Hart as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem, respectively, and thanked them for a job well done. The nominations were closed. It was directed that the City Clerk enter a unanimous ballot for James B. Stoddard as Mayor, and Charles E. Hart as Mayor Pro Tem. The City Clerk announced that James B. Stoddard been elected Mayor and Charles E. Hart had been elected Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Stoddard expressed his appreciation to the Council, and stated he would continue to do the best job he could. Hans J. Lorenz was appointed a member of the Board of- District 5, County Sanitation District of Orange 'County, and Councilman Kenneth C. Kingsley was ap- pointed the alternate to the Mayor on Boards of Districts 51 6 and 7 of the County Sanitation Districts of Orange County; and the City Clerk was directed to prepare a letter for the Mayor's signature, directed to the Boards of the Sanitatioi Districts of Orange County, stating that Councilmai Kingsley will answer the roll on the,Boards of Districts Nos. 6 and 7, instead of the Mayor. Councilman Somers was reappointed a member of the Joint Harbor Committee; Councilman Cook was ap- pointed a member of the Joint Harbor Committee; Councilman Kingsley and Councilman Hart were re- appointed alternates on the Joint Harbor Committee Mayor Stoddard stated that the Board of Supervisor of the County of Orange requested the Council to attend a special meeting on Thursday, April 21, re garding the Water Bond Program of the Governor of the State of California. Since no members of the Council would be able to attend, the City Manager was requested to send a representative to attend the meeting, and the City Manager agreed that he would have the City represented.
