The Council continued.its review of operating budgets, and examined a.list of possible adjustments, previously prepare by the City Manager at the request of. the Council, 'dated Jun 19. Empl. The City Clerk read a.letter from B. G. Hearn, Presi- Assn. dent.of the,Newport Beach City Employees' Association, letter recpmmending that.ahe- Council authorize a 5% across- request- the -board raise. Mr. Hearn: spoke. from the audience. *'raise The- City'Manager reported. orally on. his survey of 5/o raise salaries paid by other employers. and recommended that CA 47 the Council. approve. selected pay, adjustments for a.5% increase in salaries for. selected classes„ i.e., Patrol - man, Fireman, Fire Engineer, Senior Lifeguard, Auto Mechanic, and Auto Mechanic Leadman (affecting 85, em- ployees) at an estimated,cost of $26,400; and.a general pay increase, of 2 -1%2% for all classes,, at an estimated cost of $67, 000. The City Attorney stated that pending agreement between the'City,,.the County,_and.others, for the. construction, and pending, the. construction,of a,flood control drainage channel under Cherry Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Alderson have been holding an expensive residential lot needed for the construction work. The City Attorney, requested per - mission to explore: the.possibility. of the City's purchase o the lot to be, held. during the. construction„ and then sold. e The consensus.of the Council. was that'he should so proceed. 3. .(Agenda Item G -1) The.lollowing, claims for. damage, sub - mitted by Attorney Robert A. (b) The. claim for damage of Ray Gabler,: alleging damages in the. amount of $10, 300 -for injuries sustained and damage to his vehicle, incurred on April 29, 1961, when his motorcycle collided with a chain on the Iris Avenue ramp approach to the Corona del Mar State and City Beach Park. 4. (Agenda Item H -2) A letter was presented.from Robert A. Schwarz, Associate Director, Missionary Electronics, Inc. , Newport Beach„ requesting, "..... an exempt license or permit. to use. in Newport Beach a portable public address system in order to preach:,Ahe gospel:" The City Attorney. read Section 4209 of the Municipal Cod pertaining to public address systems.
