three young men, Ron Hickman of Anaheim, Richard Adam
of Long Beach, and Steve Yocom of Newport Beach, for
courageously responding tothe request of Newport Beach
Police Officer Parker for assistance in apprehending an
auto theft suspect on April 16. Richard Adams and Steve
Yocom were in the audience and acknowledged the
commendation.
The reading of the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of
April 11 and of the Regular Adjourned Meeting of April 19,
1966 was waived, and said Minutes were approved as

1. Mayor Gruber opened the public hearing to consider a
final subdivision map of Tract 6226, for the purpose of
reverting to acreage Lots 5 through 95, inclusive, and

area), as shown on Tract Map No. 5877, recorded in
Book 2181, Pages 10 through 13, inclusive, Records of
Orange County, California.
A letter was presented from the Planning Commission
dated April 20 recommending reversion to acreage.

Police Officer Johnson read a lengthy report on a vice
investigation he conducted throughout the City from
January 20 to April 23, 1966 in relation to gambling
in connection with playing pool. Attorney DeWitt
Chatterton spoke from the audience.

games in all business establishments except the Fun

The City Clerk was authorized to advertise for bids
to be opened at 10:00 A. M. on May 17, 1966.
11. Resolution No. 6345, authorizing an additional expense
allowance of the Mayor in accordance with Section 404
of the Charter, was adopted.
12. The license agreement for operation of the Newport
and Balboa Pier concessions was considered. William
Martin, 1824 West Ocean Front, spoke from the
audience.
Resolution No. 6346, authorizing license agreement
for operation of the Newport and Balboa Pier
concessions, was adopted.
13. The recommendation of the City Manager regarding
the proposed change in the salary rate of a Planning
Director was approved, and recruitment at Range 46. 5,
was authorized.
14. A letter request of Kenneth Sampson, Director of
Harbors and Beaches, that favorable consideration
to an extension of Use Permit No. 1103 be given for
a period of one year was presented with a copy of the
Conditions and Restrictions for said Use Permit.
The extension of Use Permit No. 1103, as requested
in subject letter, was authorized, subject to the con-
dition that the contractor shall reimburse the City for
the cost of the inspector to be provided by the City.
