Mayor Gruber called the meeting to order and stated said
meeting was being held for the purpose of discussing the
beach replenishment project.
Mayor Gruber stated that Councilman Shelton would not be
present until later in the evening because of a family
emergency.
The City Manager gave an oral report relative to the
t status of the beach erosion project and reported on the
tide and surf conditions. A memorandum from the
Public Works Director dated September 7 was presented.
City Engineer Ben Nolan presented a drawing showing
beach profile immediately prior to commencing the sand
haul, profile as of September 5 after erosion occurred
over Labor Day weekend, and a design profile which it was
hoped would be obtained with the sand haul, showing beach
with 50 footwidth and an 8 to 1 side slope.
Mr. Gilbert Folger and Mr. Ralph Watson spoke from the
audience in favor of additional sand being put on the beach
as protection against the on- coming storm. Mr. Fred
Hardy and Al Hertz, President of Old Town Business
Association, spoke in opposition to an extension of the
sand haul.
Councilman Rogers made a motion to recess for 15

thereby obtaining a full Council.
Absent
RECESS for fifteen minutes was declared by Mayor Gruber.
The meeting reconvened with all members present,
Councilman Shelton having arrived during recess.
Councilman Shelton was given a brief resume of the dis-
cussion prior to his arrival.
The City Clerk read the title of a resolution authorizing
additional sand replenishment of the ocean beach.
With the unanimous consent of the Council, Mayor Gruber
stated that the further reading of the resolution was
waived.
