HomeMy WebLinkAboutSS4 - Newport Heights Bicycle and Pedestrain FacilitiesJanuary 28, 2020 Newport Agenda Item No. SS4 Heights Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities City Council Study Session January 28, 2020 Public Works Department SS4-1 Newport Heights Pedestrian/Bicycle Discussion Recent City Council Discussions: August 14, 2018 - Newport Heights Neighborhood School Traffic Study • Developed through an extensive Public outreach effort • Recommended 31 sign, marking and striping improvements related to school activities • Bike lane improvements on Clay Street and new Loading Zone parking restrictions on Beacon Street were contested by some residents • Additional meetings led to installation of Shared lane markings on Clay Street October 8, 2019 - City Council Meeting Public Comment • Community members requested the City consider additional bicycle and pedestrian facility improvements within Newport Heights October 22, 2019 - Request an Item to be Placed on a Future City Council Agenda • Council formally requested a future City Council Item to discuss possible installation of protected bike lanes and other pedestrian facilities within Newport Heights SS4-2 Newport Heights Pedestrian/Cycling Discussion Contrasting Community Desires: 1. Improve walkability and cycling within Newport Heights 2.
