Last month, the County completed the bid process. Two firms responded to the bid request. The Board of Supervisors awarded a $5.4 million contract to the low bidder, Solliflo and Partners of Oceanside, on September 23rd. This contract also includes dredging for the Dover Shores area, which Dover Shores will fund. Solliflo is the same contractor who is currently completing the dredging at Newport Dunes. The total cost for the dredging project is estimated at $6 million, which includes not only the dredging contract, but project management costs and contingency funds as well. Currently, the State has contributed $2 million, and the federal government recently awarded $1 million for the project. The County of Orange has agreed to advance the remaining funds necessary to complete the project now, in anticipation that the State will provide additional funds in FY 98/99. Ken Emanuels has already begun work with the State Resources Agency and our local legislators toward achieving this goal. City staff is also exploring private funding sources, including private foundations. The County anticipates the dredging will begin in mid-November and will take approximately ten months to complete.
