L.�.I Newport Beach Municipal Code chapter 5.15 regulates the operation of tow trucks providing official police tow services. This chapter provides for the operation of two official police tow companies in agreement with the City for a two year period, whose agreements alternately expire. The current agreement with G & W Towing Inc. expires on January 31, 1991. The City Clerk opened the bidding in November of 1990, and notified by mail all currently licensed tow truck operators of the open bid period. The open bid period for the next two year period was closed in December with one bid received from G & W Towing Inc. The Police Department has reported no complaints of the services provided by G & W Towing in the last two years, and that the facility as well as all vehicles operated by the company are in compliance with applicable sections of Municipzl., California Vehicle and Administrative Codes. G & Towing has been licensed to operate tow trucks in the City since 1973. Section 5.15.060 of the Municipal Council may award the contract for to the most responsible bidder. The rates bid in our proposal are the current City rates, as contained in Resolution 90-52. To improve our service to the City over the past two years, we have made many changes. One of these is the addition of a new state of the art heavy duty wheel lift truck. This truck has become necessary as motorhome and truck manufactures have replaced steel bumpers with plastic bumpers. This new truck lifts vehicles by their wheel or frame thus avoiding all bumper contact. As a result our fleet has expanded to 16 trucks, consisting of 8 wheel lifts for cars, 1 sling truck, 5 flatbeds, 1 heavy duty wheel lift, and 1 extra heavy duty unit for large trucks. In August of this year, we moved into new office facilities at 965 West 18th Street. This move allowed us to combine all of our vehicle storage into one location with a capacity of over 300 vehicles outside and approximately 30 vehicles inside. These facilities are secured with a 24 hour recorded video system that covers the entire storage area and the front of the office. These new facilities and equipment have been added so that we may continue to improve our service to the City of Newport Beach, and its citizens, and we invite your inspection.
