ACTION: If desired, adopt Resolution 93- creating the City Council
Ad Hoc Economic Development Committee.
At the suggestion of the Mayor, a resolution appointing an Economic Development
Committee was drafted and reviewed at the last Study Session. The resolution
stresses that the City's ability to provide quality services is dependent on revenues
generated by the property and businesses within the City. The proposed Committee
will oversee development of an Economic Development Policy and will provide a
forum for businessmen and others to provide input and share their concerns regarding
the economy of the City. The attached resolution provides for membership as
discussed at the Study Session.
Extensive conversation among staff reveals that many items within an Economic
Development Policy can be controversial and require careful scrutiny. Therefore the
resolution calls for the Committee to oversee the development of the Policy. Staff has
completed most of the research needed to develop a policy including a shopping list of
nearly every conceivable action. Therefore, the attached resolution proposes a
relatively short time period (30 days) for the Committee to formulate a policy.
