SUBJECT: Approval of Appointments to the Youth Council
Recommendation
Approve nine appointments to the Youth Council per the requirements of
Resolution No. 86-2 adopted by the City Council on January 13, 1986.
Background
Following the adoption of Resolution No. 86-2 approving the formation of the
Youth Council, an appointment process was developed in cooperation with the
Activities Directors at Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor High Schools. The
process utilized an application, interviews and evaluation criteria consistent
with other appointed student leadership positions. As a result, nine of the
ten positions were successfully appointed as of May 31. The lone vacant position
is the incoming freshman representative for Newport Harbor High who will be
appointed in September. Therefore, City Council approval is requested for the
following student appointments to the Youth Council for one year terms, June 1,
1986 to May 31, 1987, as listed by high school and class designations:

SUBJECT: Request for Appointment of the Councilmember
Liaison to the Youth Council
Recommendation
Appoint a City Councilperson Liaison to the Youth Council.
Background
Resolution No. 86-2 which authorized the formation of the Youth Council
requires the membership of the Youth Council to include one (1) Council -
person Liaison.
For the City Council's information, the Resolution also requires the
appointment of one (1) School Board Member Liaison appointed by the
School Board. As a result of Mayor Maurer's correspondence of June 23,
1986, the School Board has appointed Judy Franco as the School Board
Liaison.
