RE: PERS Health Plans
and Members of the Newport Beach
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the attached resolution making the City
employees represented by the Newport Beach Employees League (NBEL), the Newport
Beach City Employees Association (NBCEA), and the Newport Beach Professional and
Technical Employees Association (NBP&TEAg eligible to participate in the PERS Health
Plan System.
BACKGROUND: The City Council passed this item on the consent calendar
at the May 8th meeting. When we sent the resolution to Sacramento, PERS sent it
back to us with an apology. Apparently the Code has changed recently, and they sent
us the old filing instructions. The new filing instructions require us to reference a
different Government Code section, and additionally requires that each employee
association must be listed on a separate resolution. We faxed the attached resolutions
to PERS in advance of this meeting to make sure that they would be acceptable, and
they have responded in the affirmative.
