Phone 673 -3520 RE: Balboa Angling Club Lease Renewal J —)& Dear Councilmen: The Balboa Angling Club desires to renew the present lease on its Clubhouse located at the front of "A" Street. The Club has devoted much effort to various civic projects in the past and in the present, including sponsorship of the Annual Junior Fishing Tournament which is open to all youngsters in the Newport area, the vast majority of whose parents do not belong to the Club. The Clubhouse is open to the public for use as a meeting room upon request and with absolutely no charge to the using group. Many groups have availed themselves of the Clubhouse facilities including Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat Inspection and Balboa Peninsula Point Association. During the Spring, Summer and Fall months the Clubhouse is open for the purpose of weighing in all species of fish. No charge is made for this service and any members of the public may bring in his catch for weighing. On many occasions during the summer and fall months, the Clubhouse remains open for weighing purposes until late evening when a message is received that a swordfish has been taken and the angler is still far out at sea. The Balboa Angling Club scales are certified accurate so that world record catches taken in local waters shall be recognized by the Inter- national Game Fish Association. The Club presents a certificate of recognition to every angler, including all non -club members, for weighing in a swordfish. During the period of 1955 to 1965 over 55% of the swordfish weighed in at the Club facilities were caught by non - members of the Club. The Club has been in contact with Mr. Seymore of the City Attorney's Office and Mr. Seymore stated that he felt there was more than adequate public use received from these facilities in order to allow a future lease of the premises to the Club. For the above reasons the undersigned, as President of the Balboa Angling Club, requests that the present lease between the City of Newport Beach and the Balboa Angling Club be extended for a 10 -year term.
