SUBJECT: AGREEMENT FOR MAINTENANCE OF STATE HIGHWAYS
IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH

1. Approve a revised agreement for maintenance of state highways in the
City of Newport Beach.
2. Adopt a resolution authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute
the contract.
DISCUSSION:
The City entered into an agreement with the State of California Division of
Highways in 1965 for the routine maintenance of state highways in the City.
Routine maintenance consists of street sweeping and maintenance of certain
street lights. Recent negotiations between the City and the California Divi-
sion of Highways have resulted in a revised agreement which will supersede
the agreement in force since 1965.
The revised agreement reflects an increase in unit costs plus additional miles
of highway added by annexations to the City since 1965. The former agreement
provided for a maximum annual reimbursement of $8,845.00. The new agreement
provides for a maximum annual reimbursement of $20,000.00.
