Cox, Jr. City Hail Office of the Mayor 3300 Newport Boulevard Newport Beach, CA 92663 Dear Mayor Cox and City Council members: ' F-4 c Mary G. Singleton. 315 Sapphire Avenue Balboa Island, CA 92662 (714) 675-0212 August 28, 1988 01INCll S E P 2 6 1988 As per your letter (Nov 18, 1987) asking us to take our airport concerns to the Newport Beach Aviation Committee, Balboa Island residents have been trying for a year to work through the Aviation Committee. Our valid suggestions and requests have met with resistance from the onset. This opposition is very easy to understand when one looks at the addresses of the members of your aviation committee. It is comprised of members living on the west side of Newport Bay. Balboa Island just recently got a seat (the first and still only on the east side of the bay). This committee will continue to be a sham for residents who live on the east side of the bay until it is equally representative of both sides of the bay. Peninsula Point must have a seat as aircraft are routed directly over their homes. Eastbluff should also be represented. In the past, aviation committee members made their own recommendations for aviation committee members which only served to perpetuate their protectionist stance. Members must be nominated by homeowners' groups to assure they have their neighborhood's best interest at heart. For example, Lido is one of the least impacted areas of the city yet the chairman lives on Lido as does the holder of one of the "citizen" seats. This is double representation. Turner, Edwards and Drummond give Dover Shores/Westcliff "triple" representation. These seats should be vacated to assure that both Peninsula Point and Eastbluff get the seats they deserve. Please circulate this to City Council Members. Thank you. Sincerely Mary G. Singleton, Chairperson of CARE OFF? CQb , r C.
