L% 2_, BY THE CGiMCIL CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH NOV 13 1984 APPROVED Approve, or deny, the request of Friends of OASIS to serve cocktails at their kick-off party for their annual fund drive. Background: Council Policy I-5, Use, Priorities and Fees for Facilities and Equipment, was amended in 1979 to allow wine to be served for special occasions when requested and approved by the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Director. By policy, this Department does not have the authority to permit alcohol other than beer and wine to be served within a public facility. niSr.ussinn- Friends of OASIS has requested (letter attached) to have the City Council authorize their serving of mixed drinks at their fund drive kick-off party. This Department is not opposed to their request, however, it should be pointed out that approval would set a precedent and other community groups would probably submit similar requests for special occasions.
