DISCUSSION: When the south wing and the administrative office at OASIS are vacated by Carden School later this month, a certain amount of renovation and remodel- ing will have to be done prior to occupancy by the senior citizens. Funds for this type of refurbishment are available on a 75%-25% basis through the Older Americans Act. It is estimated that $12,000 will be necessary to complete the renovations, with the City's share being $2,000 in cash and $1,000 in in -kind services. The Title V Grant will provide the balance amount of $9,000. A list of the proposed renovations is attached for your review. In requesting the funds, the City agrees to use the facility as a senior citizen multipurpose building for not less than three years after the contract date of September 30, 1979. Calvin C. One door leading from an office to the outside is badly damaged and needs replacing. Safety and appearance. All electrical outlets and systems need checking and/or replacing. There are exposed wires. Entire wing needs painting. Wing has 5 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Renovation of outdoor lighting system needed for safety purposes. Many evening activities are planned. Walls in 4 rooms and 2 restrooms need painting. Needed to keep supplies handy and safe in 3 rooms. Existing carpeting in 4 rooms is all matted and would be dangerous for older adults. This needs to be removed and tile floors installed. Hot water is needed in 2 rooms--. Social Services and Arts & Crafts. Hook-up and hot water tank needed for sanitary reasons. Friends of Oasis P.O. No additional monies are requested, but simply a change in items as needs have become manifest. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, BEACHES AND RECREA- TION TO APPLY FOR FUNDS UNDER TITLE V OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT FOR RENOVATIONS AND ALTERATIONS TO THE S017 W ADMINI- STRATIVE OFFICE AT THE`<: �', �; AND TO EXECUTE ANY AGREEMENTS PURSUANT THERETO WHEREAS, the City of Newpert Beach is the owner of certain buildings planned to become a part of a senior citizen facility; and WHEREAS, the buildings are currently being occupied by a private school; and WHEREAS, the buildings will require remodeling for use by the senior citizens after the school vacates the premises on June 30, 1978; and WHEREAS, funds are available for said remodeling through the Title V Program of the Older Americans Act; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Newport Beach City Council does hereby authorize the Director of Parks, Beaches and Recreation to apply for Title V funds on a 25%/75% basis with the City's contribution to be $2,000 in cash and $1,000 in in -kind services. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Parks, Beaches and Recreation is authorized to execute any agreements in connection with the application for said funds.
