ORDINANCE NO. 796
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
SECTIONS 4107 and 4107.1
OF CHAPTER 1 OF ARTICLE
IV OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH EXCLUD-
ING DOGS FROM CERTAIN
AREAS WITHIN THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH.
The City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, State of Cali-
fornia, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: That Section 4107
of Chapter 1 of Article IV of the
Municipal Code of the City of
Newport Beach be and the same
is hereby amended to read as
follows:
"Section 4107. Dogs. Re-
stricted Areas. No person
having the care, charge or
control of any dog shall per-
mit or allow said dog to be
at large upon any beach,
street, alley, park or public
place in said City, unless
such dog is securely held by
a leash or chain not ex-
ceeding six feet in length,
and any such dog so at large
may be ordered muzzled by
the Chief of Police, or any
public officer, or ordered re-
moved from such beach,
street, alley, park or other
public place. This section
shall not be construed as al-
lowing dogs on leashes In
the prohibited areas as des-
ignated by Sections 4107.1
and 4107.2 of this Code."
SECTION 2: That Section 4107.1
of Chapter 1 of Article IV of the
Municipal Code of the City of
Newport Beach be and the same
1s hereby amended to read as
follows:
"Section 4107.1. Dogs. Fur-

ther Restricted Areas. No
person having the care,
charge or control of any dog
shall permit or allow said
dog to be, under any circum-
stances or conditions, on or
upon public beaches fronting
on the Bay of Newport Har-
bor, or upon public parks
which are used primarily as
children's playgrounds with-
in the City of Newport Beach,
provided that this section
shall not prevent the
Parks, Beaches and Recre-
ation Department from hold-
ing public events In which
pets participate on public
parks within the City of
Newport Beach."
SECTION 3: This ordinance
shall be published at least once
in the Newport Harbor Ensign, a
newspaper of general circulation
printed and published and circu-
lated In the City of Newport
Beach, and the same shall be in
full force and effect thirty days
after the final passage thereof.
The above and foregoing ordi-
nance was Introduced at a regu-
lar meeting of the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach
held on the 23rd day of July,
1956 and was finally passed and
adopted on the 13th day of Au-
gust, 1956, by the following vote,
to wit:

NOES, COUNCILMEN: None.
ABSENT COUNCILMEN: Hig-
bie.
