toAN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING SECTION 14.12.090 OF THE NEWPORT
BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR AN
AUTOMATIC WATER RATE ADJUSTMENT FROM AND
AFTER JANUARY 1, 1980
WHEREAS, the City, as a water pruveyor, is anticipating
major changes in the price of water from the Metropolitan Water
District in the near future; and
WHEREAS, amending the rate ordinance by individual
Council action upon each increase in water prices from the
Metropolitan Water District requires a long lead time to reflect
the increase in the water billing cycle; and
WHEREAS, the City's present rate system is no longer
able to absorb increases in the cost of imported water due to
the maintenance of a capital improvement program and increasing
operational costs,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach DOES ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 14.12.090 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
1114.12.090 Quantity Changes. In addition to the
readiness to serve charges set forth in this Chapter,
the rate for water supplied to consumers through a
meter, other than pursuant to a written contract approved
by the City Council, shall be as follows:
Effective Date Rate
July 1, 1977 $0.39 per 100 cu. ft.
July 1, 1978 $0.45 per 100 cu. ft.
January 1, 1980, and City water rates will be
thereafter adjusted to reflect Metro-
politan Water District rate
changes, by resolution of
the City Council.
Should the automatic adjustment require a water rate
increase, the amount of the increase shall be added to the

quantity charges and shall be equal to the Metropolitan
Water District increase, raised to the next highest
whole penny for each 100 cubic feet used."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published once in
the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be
effective thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting
of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the
1st day of October
1979, and was adopted on
the 10th day of October 1 1979, by the
following vote, to wit:
